Excellent Views for Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Places to Stay Along the Route

Anastasia Zoldak
One of the most spectacular holiday parades in the world, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade has been an American tradition since 1924. This year the route has been changed to accommodate the giant helium floats, but hotels still line the streets where guests will have an excellent view of the parade.

Hotels Views of the Parade
The 2009 parade route will be going down 7th avenue so the best New York City hotels to view the parade will be located there. For tourists wanting to view the parade in the lap of luxury the Marriott Renaissance New York Hotel, which is located on 7th avenue, is a great choice. This luxury hotel offers packages that include breakfast and it's just a short walk to Times Square.

The Sheraton Manhattan Hotel is also located along this year's parade route. Rooms facing 7th avenue should have a bird's eye view of the parade. The hotel itself is close to Times Square, the theater district of Broadway, Rockefeller Center where the kids can skate, Central Park, and the famous Madison Avenue shopping.

The Wellington Hotel is located right on 7th avenue. This hotel offers easy access to a number of New York attractions and this year's parade route will pass by the hotel. Visitors to the Wellington Hotel and Sheraton Manhattan Hotel need to make sure to request a room with a view of the parade.

The Park Central Hotel is currently offering a number of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Packages, which offer a variety of viewing perspectives of the parade route. The hotel is also planning a lavish champagne brunch buffet to be served after the parade and a seasonal three-course dinner for that evening.

Best Outdoor Viewing Spots

For those who are not able to get a room on the parade route one of the best places to view the parade is at its beginning when the parade participants are at the height of their energy and excitement. Tourists can expect crowds everywhere but the area along Central Park West across from Central Park is a nice place to see the parade. Once the parade has passed, tourists can enjoy a stroll in the park to see Belvedere Castle, which is situated high on Vista Rock.

Can't Miss

The night before the parade, outside of the Museum of Natural History, the balloon floats for the parade are prepared and blow-up with helium.
