Exciting Summer Activities in Greenville, South Carolina

If you're a busy mom with kids that you consider 'couch potatoes' then you realize that getting our families out and moving can sometimes be an exercise in futility. But if you live in Greenville county that really shouldn't be a problem this summer, as the Greenville Parks and Recreation Dept. has many exciting events planned for families this summer. And with so many fun things happening right in your own backyard, there's really no reason to lay around doing nothing, or to travel far from home in search of fun.

Riverbend Park has a petting zoo for the kids to enjoy, horse shows; where they also offer family riding lessons. And many locations for birthday parties or just an afternoon picnic in the park. Riverbend is a 64 acre park located in the country. With some beautiful scenery to be enjoyed by all. There is no admittance to the park itself, however if you want to enjoy the shows and lessons offered there is a small charge for those.

The Greenville district has many indoor community centers which offer summer camps, senior citizen enrichment programs and a diverse group of athletic opportunities for kids and adults alike. There is usually no charge for these programs, however there may be a small membership fee. They do offer discounted prices for seniors and multiple members of the same family. Greenville also just opened up there first water park in 2009. Discovery Island Water park offers a full day of fun and adventure on there latest and greatest water rides. Their Lazy Day Lagoon allows plenty of leisure for parents and their outrageous slides provide all the adventure the kids can handle. There is a charge for this water park and it's based on age. They also allow discounts for the very young and senior citizens. They have a snack bar on site where you can purchase drinks and snacks for the family.

Also in Greenville, the Pavilion Recreation Complex which provides the districts premiere indoor recreation. In addition to there top notch ice skating rinks, this family oriented complex also features an in-line skating rink, badminton courts, a game room and concession stands where you can purchase all your favorite snacks while enjoying the various sports activities. They also have spacious and accommodating conference facilities. There is always a charge for the use of the rinks. Pleasant Ridge Park is a 240 acre park located in the Blue Ridge foothills. They have a 5 acre lake to be enjoyed for swimming, boating, fishing or casting for the huge trout that swim in the rivers. Pleasant Ridge offers full camping facilities which consist of full hookup camping, mountain cabins, and picnic shelters. The costs are moderate for camp site and cabin rental. Westside Aquatic Center in Greenville has the only indoor 50- meter swim complex in the state. This is an Olympic sized facility which offers their patrons all the latest techniques for scuba diving, kayaking, and several other aquatic sports. They also pride themselves on their senior citizen aquatic programs and competitive swimming competitions.
