Excuse Me, but All Vegans Aren't Cuckoo!

It seems everywhere you turn someone is coming up with a new weight loss program, quick fix for all kinds of ailments, or some type of energy boosting drink or pill. What many people do not realize is that a lot of these problems can be treated simply by what you put in your mouth, better known as your diet.

This is the story of my father, a brilliant research engineering and developmental business owner who was short of debilitated at 40 years old. Family history was not on his side being that almost every male in his family had died at 47 or younger. Heart disease, cancer, and diabetes were the main culprits and my father had the signs of all of them and more.

His body had set up rheumatoid arthritis and he had grown a nasty deformity on his shoulder where lifting his arm past halfway was impossible. Bleeding ulcers and a severe abdominal hernia plagued him daily, having to take multiple medications a day just to ease the pain. High blood pressure caused early morning nosebleeds and discolored feet and hands were the result of poor circulation. Needless to say, he was following in the footsteps of his elders and pretty much, falling apart. He has never been one to make visits to a doctor, so we all knew something had to be done, or quite frankly, he was going to die.

Then the call came, "I'm going vegan."

Huh?

I swore his health wasn't the only thing deteriorating, but his mind was also! He cleaned out his entire kitchen, throwing away most everything he had. He bought a juicer and every fruit and vegetable imaginable and went almost 100% raw, cold turkey no doubt. In the weeks ahead, his body went through some pretty tough and strange detoxifications. No weight loss pill was needed here as he lost a substantial amount of weight in a short period of time.

As time went by, his complexion began getting a touch of pink and the red, patchy areas were disappearing. The growth on his shoulder literally disappeared, and he was able to lift his arm higher and higher. The nosebleeds were a thing of the past and color came back to his extremities.

Most of us out there cannot fathom a life eating solely fruits, vegetable, nuts, grains, and breads, especially raw. The transformation that lifestyle has had in the life of my father has been unimaginable. I cannot remember one time him having the flu, stomach virus, or much less the simple cold in the ten years he has been a vegan. Yes, it is a very tough transition having to reprogram your mind to think "this is healthy" from "this tastes great". He has now surpassed forty seven and is now fifty and healthier than ever before in his life. He can outrun men half his age and requires less sleep. He takes no medications nor is he weighed down by pain and discomfort. Not to say he will never acquire something else, but he is definitely on a better road than most, including myself.

A very tough way of life for a short time can plainly give you the weight loss, energy boost, or help with some ailment you may have. You should always consult with your physician before coming off any medications or if you are planning to take a variety of supplements.
