Exercise: Does the Body Good

Patricia ZelmEmmart, CHHC
With all of the different diets on the market to choose from we should not forget the importance of exercising daily. One of the first and most important steps to take before starting any exercise routine is to meet with your Doctor. The conversation with your Doctor should be to talk over what level of exercise is right for you. With the wide variety of exercises that one can choose from starting with the hard core running to the strength building yoga. Each and every one has their own unique benefits for the body. As you start out on a new exercise routine be gentle with yourself to realize that some days, it will be difficult to fit the exercise time into your very busy schedule. So if you miss a few days the whole idea is to not give up on the routine you are building.

Besides the regular workout, here is a list of just a few extra things to do through the day to keep active. I have found this helps me stay motivated to do my daily workout, and all of these are simple things.

• Take the steps instead of the elevator.

• Park the car out away from the mall, and walk the extra distance.

• When the weather is nice, venture out to play in the yard with your children.

• Walk up and down the stairs in your home a number of times in the evening.

The point is to keep yourself moving. Be creative and have fun with exercise by building it into your everyday lives.
