Exercise to Stay Young

Are you over the age of 30 and find yourself forgetting the simplest little details of your daily life? Unfortunately as we age, many of us find ourselves faced with this problem. We worry that we might be facing the earliest stages of Alzheimers. But with the newest studies done by physicians at the Journal Of Sports Medicine, we can relax and know that our minds are still intact, our brain cells are just shrinking. Studies have shown that as we age our brain cells shrink and neurotransmitters decrease. What's a neurotransmitter you may ask. These are chemical messengers which relay messages from one part of the brain to the other. When these decrease, it results in sharp declines in cognitive functions. However, as bleak as that news is, there are ways to avoid this decline in our mental abilities.

Doctors recommend to keep in our best tip top mental shape, we need to stay physical. Studies show that regular exercise can reverse these age related declines in our brain and boost the volume of brain tissue. This results in healthier brain activity and helps to keep our brain in its best physical condition possible. Exercise increases the neurotransmitters, it replenishes blood supply to the brain and builds healthy new brain cells. A few studies done by The Beckham Institute, show that just 6 months of aerobic activity reversed the signs of aging on the brain and improved the natural ability of the brain to grow and replenish blood cells. I'm sure you've heard about the numerous health benefits of consistent exercise. With the studies done on the brain, now there's an even more important reason to stay healthy and active. We only have one brain, and if you've ever had the misfortune of seeing someone in your family suffer from Alzheimer's, then you know the agony they must endure, an agony that's beyond anyone's control. Its very hard to forget things you've known your whole life. Or the heartbreak it causes those you love when you don't remember who they are. Exercise of course wont prevent Alzheimer's but it will give you an added edge in keeping your brain as healthy as you possibly can.
