You want to lose 10 to 20 pounds? Exercise is a good method to lose weight but it is not enough to reach your goal. To lose weight and keep it off, it is important you take a look at your current lifestyle and see what you can change to lose weight.

It is a good idea you consult your doctor and get a check up of your heart and run blood work to see what kind of physical shape you are in. While you are there, you can ask which kind of sports or exercises are suitable for you. After you discuss your options, try and choose a sport or exercises that you like; otherwise you are likely to give it up very early. It's more effective to involve yourself in an exercise you enjoy.

Jogging, running, swimming, cycling, walking are good sports to lose weight but you also need to pay attention on the intake of your food. Be sure you don't start your exercise with an empty stomach or eat just before you begin your exercise.

Eating healthy food is important to reach good results with your exercise and necessary in combination with your exercise to lose weight. Here are some tips for a healthy eating lifestyle:

- Eat enough vegetables, fruit and fish for the intake of the necessary vitamins and proteins.
- Avoid fat and be sure to learn the difference between the good and bad kinds of fat.
- Drink a lot of water; it is very important to clean your body and that you don't become dehydrated before or during the exercise.
- Avoid sugar and eating an excess of sweets.

When you start an exercise routine, it is important you do it at least 4 days each week and for 30 minutes or more. Exercise is a good way to develop stronger muscles and you burn a lot of calories. You will quickly lose a lot of pounds by combining exercise with a healthy diet. Regular exercise is necessary otherwise you don't lose the weight you want to lose.

The use of a calorie calculator which you can find on some Internet sites is useful to know how many calories you burn during your exercise. This is a computer program where you need to fill in which kind of exercise, your weight and the time that you practice this exercise and it calculates the calories you burned during this exercise. Take a note of the food you eat during the day and calculate the calories. If you know the result you can change your diet or the time you do your exercise for reaching your goal of losing 10 to 20 pounds.

Some useful tips to get in a little more exercise throughout the day:
- Avoid taking the car if you go in town but instead try to walk if possible, or use your bicycle to reach your destination if it is only a few miles.
- If you take the bus; stop earlier and walk a short distance to your home.
- Use the stairs instead of the lift.
- When watching TV, between commercial breaks don't stay in your seat but try to move around a little bit.
