Existing and Dealing with Emotional Baggage

Kevin Lamb
The mind is filled with hundreds of thoughts which bounce off one another like pool balls at the speed of light. Thoughts of fear seem to rule and dominate the mind. Now a mental battle is going on between the ego and the mind as we desperately try to referee the action center stage.

Negative thoughts multiply and fill the mind. You try to rationalize these thoughts when they enter, but each one is doubled and then tripled. Now your sense of self is being threatened. You're soon left in a never-ending maze of thought as your mind engages in a mental war. So, you shut everything down and try to dull the mind in some form.

The third dimensional mind

Most of these emotions which dominate the mind are thoughts of fear and doubt. The mind is dominated by thoughts of regrets from the past, and worries about the future. These are thoughts which you have no immediate control over, yet they rule the mind anyway. Why do we live in a mind filled with sorrow and regret? And why do some people "choose" to do it?

The mind is a giant muscle which loves to be used. In fact it's the most powerful muscle we have, but it is also a jealous muscle. Anything can be done with the mind. You can kill, you can give life, or you can also use it to self destruct your third dimensional mind if you choose to let the ego run freely.

Once your sense of self has been threatened the ego kicks in immediately. Now all of your thoughts are about self preservation. The ego will go to any extreme to be used. So, you have to train the mind and the ego, in order for the mind to be used in a positive manner.

Living with the ego

The ego is a tool that we need to survive, but it's also a destructive tool if overly active. The mind and the ego are dominated by failures from the past and self doubts of future events. Acceptance is the first step to letting go of the past. What we chose to learn or experience from that time is gone. The future is coming no matter what you do, so why constantly worry about it now. These worries about self are all programmed by the ego.

At this moment in time you have "situations" which of course need to be dealt with, but sometimes these situations become life problems in the mind. The best way to get rid of emotional baggage is to reprogram the mind. Teach the mind to live in the "present moment" instead of the past and the future with all of the worries and regrets.

A new beginning

A mental break is all that's needed to start reprogramming the mind. After a while these breaks start to last a little longer until your unconsciously taking these "mental breaks" and you don't even realize it; unless you start to notice that you're in a better mood than usual. Of course these mental breaks are meditation which is a way to find the peace (or the God) which lies within us all.

Pick a quiet time of day where you can relax and feel at ease. Sit or lie down and try to shut down the excessive chatter in the mind. When a thought enters the mind send it right back out the same way it came in. Relax, and take several deep slow breaths, then exhale them slowly. Actually, if you just concentrate on your breathing the thoughts usually slow down.

Visualization is also a method which usually seems to help. Visualization is just putting your mind somewhere that is peaceful where you can relax the mind, and slowly begin to use it in an intuitive way. Throw out all of the thoughts of worry or fear as they enter the mind. With some dedicated mental practice the mind will slowly begin to filter out these destructive thought patterns.

A form of meditation should be practiced every day just as you would brush your teeth, or wash your face. The more you do it, the more control you begin to have on the mind, and its thought patterns. The mind soon begins to realize that you don't "live there anymore" and it soon quits visiting the old mental haunts that it used to thrive on. It begins to focus now on new areas of thought: positive ones.

Meditation tapes can be bought on-line or at almost any department store or music shop. "Guided" meditation tapes can be used to get you started, or just peaceful music to help you relax. You can live the rest of your life going over and over the same old thoughts with no relief in sight, or you use the best muscle you have to manifest your future. "The mind is a terrible thing to waste," so be mentally conscious, and remember to use it in a positive manner.
