Ex-Mayor Kilapatrick Sentenced to 5 Years in Jail

The Ex-mayor of Detroit is About to Do Some Time for Attempting to Fool the System

Kwame Kilapatrick was sentenced to over five years in jail for trying to fool the City of Detroit. He failed miserably. He was told he had to pay 1 million dollars in restitution to the City of Detroit, so he tried to hide his hundreds of thousands of dollars in assets so he wouldn't have to pay. now this is where the story gets really good. Kilapatrick told the government that he could only afford to pay $6 a month. Is that the best he could do? What made it even worse was that he just moved his family into an amazingly expensive home in Texas and six whole dollars was the only thing he claimed he could come up with. I personally know children who can afford more than six dollars a month selling mowing lawns.

Kilapatrick could not fool the courts and they sentenced him to 5 years and 18 months in jail. That's a long time to be in jail for hiding money. But at the same time, it was a lot of money. he attempted to plea his way out of it but it did not work. I believe that if you have money, and you owe money, pay it off. You won't win going against the government and they will find you. Even if you think you got away for a few years, they will hunt you down, take even more than what you owed, humiliate you and your whole family, and then put you in jail. So if you think about, one is better off just paying the bill.

If every politician who ever broke or strongly bent a law to get something s'he wanted and if each of those instances were prosecuted, we would finally achieve the goal suggested by Shakespeare, "First, kill all the politicians." Maybe not kill them - Lock them on a island with each other and purge the rest of the world of them while they eat each others egos for sustenance until, alas, nothing remains.
