The origins of the Pixie-Bob is said to have started in Washington State when barn cats bred naturally with Coastal Red Bobcats. From there breeders have bred these striking creatures into loving pets who are loyal and get along well with family and other household pets.
The Pixie-Bob has the distinctive look of a Bobcat with their large-boned frame, thick feet, heavy muscle tone, natural bobbed tail and Lynx tufts on their ear tips. Their coat is double thick and wooly in texture and can be in the shorthair or longhair variety. The Pixie-Bob coat color can range from dove gray to dark tan to reddish brown and is sprinkled with small spots, also called rosettes. These rosettes are what give the Pixie-Bob the look of a wild cat as opposed to the stripes of a tabby.
Pixie-Bobs have sweat faces to match their personality with almond-shaped eyes or green or gold and a thick mane of fur at the neck. Males grow up to 20 pounds while females average around 14 pounds. The best Pixie-Bob show cats are those with faces and coloring that most resemble the Bobcat. Kittens who have a tabby look to them usually sell as pets.
Pixie-Bobs are only sold through a few select breeders and can cost around $400 for pet quality and much more for breeder or show quality. Because of their personality and distinctive wild look they have become very popular with cat owners over the past few years.
Although the Pixie-Bob looks like a miniature Bobcat they have been bred to make wonderful pets who become loyal, loving companions for years to come.
