Expecting Mother's New Disorder: Pregorexia

*Shell*
No woman wants to ever gain weight. The excepted part of a woman's life to gain weight is when they are pregnant. Most enjoy the fact that they can relatively eat more than they usually have; knowing that they aren't just eating for themselves puts the guilt in the back of their minds. Other women aren't so lucky to have that positive mind set on a day to day basis. They feel guilty for gaining weight and feel like they are ruining their bodies despite being pregnant and having to feed the unborn baby to help it grow.

Pregorexia is a disorder that has just recently become common in newly pregnant woman around the world. The women with this disorder choose to eat very little more than they did previous to pregnancy in order to regain their pre-pregnancy figure a few days after giving birth.

Since this condition is it the beginning stages of research there isn't much for data on the condition, but I did find a study from Tommy's, the British organization that funds research on pregnancy in the UK, that showed women with this condition run the risk of their babies having low birth weight, birth defects such as spina bifida, growth retardation, and vitamin deficiency in the mother and child.

When I was first found out I was pregnant with my son thoughts of weight gain had crossed my mind because I had just recently worked to lose 30lbs and accomplished my goal. The thought of gaining that weight back was devastating to me. I then took a different look at my situation. I am creating a life inside of my body, and that to me was worth gaining the pounds back so I could grow a healthy baby! Before you get all worried about gaining the weight and not losing it, think of the life that will suffering because of the selfish decision you are going to make. It is hard to lose weight I understand that, believe me it took me a year and a half to lose my pregnancy weight, but I did it and am now 10 pounds lighter than I was before I was pregnant! Time is the key!
