Your CD and DVD Collections
At $15 or more each, you invested a lot of money in the discs in your cd and dvd collection. Most pawn shops are only willing to offer $1 each. This means you may be able to leave with some money, but not a large sum.
Each disc is appraised individually. To qualify for any cash, a cd must be in excellent condition with no scratches. It should be in its original case with the liner notes. The same rules apply for dvds.
Silver and Platinum Jewelry
Unless your jewelry is yellow gold, your chances of pawning it are slim. Not even platinum earns more at the pawn shop. Platinum, white gold, and silver are hard sells in this venue. You may or may not get an offer for these items, but if you do, the offer will be laughably low.
Diamonds
Even high quality, perfectly matched, egl certified diamonds won't get a second look if they are small. Most pawn shops are more willing to pay for large diamonds of poor quality than a piece set with more carats in small quality diamonds. It's all about the bling, and the resale potential.
Video Games
Even more expensive than cds or dvds, the average game costs $30 to $40. Pawn shops rarely pay over $5 each for games. Throw in the $20 guide books for free and the pawn shop might make an offer. If your games are not popular at the moment or are for an older platform, don't bother.
Fur Coats
Many pawn shops no longer accept mink coats and other fur items. The cost to properly store them is too high. They also take up a lot of room and may not resell depending on current fashion trends. Some older shops may have furs for sale. They've been there for years.
Electronics
Is your television the latest, top of the line model? Do you have the newest computer on the market? If not, the prospects aren't good. Your old gaming platform won't cause a stir, either. The pawn shop rarely takes out of date electronics.
What now?
Many of these items would sell at auction online, but not for full retail price. Jewelry brokers often take jewelry on consignment even if they can't make an upfront offer to purchase pieces. Search this site or google for more ideas on how to turn these unwanted items into cash.

Post a CommentSorry for deleting your comment, Barbara, but I'm uncomfortable with publishing your personal contact info here. If your fur is vintage (from the 80s or earlier) you can sell it on etsy.com. Good luck!
WHEN YOU PAWN IT THEY CANNOT SELL TILL A CERTAIN TIME USUALLY 90 DAYS AND THE PRICE WILL GO UP EVERY MONTH OR SO.
I don't have anything to pawn, but this is excellent information. The only plus of pawning versus selling is you may be able to get the item back if no one buys it. And you will probably pay a whole lot more than what they gave you.
