Once I opened the packaging, the compact is study and elegant. It is a dark brown, and shows the two colors through the plastic top. There is a piece of plastic covering the eyeshadows themselves, so you can read what they are for. The brown color is for 'contour' and the light beige for 'highlight'.
The eyeshadow compact opens up at the front, and once you lift it up, the applicator lifts up. One edge is a brush and the other a sponge. Then you can take out the plastic with the writing on it, and put the applicator in it's slot.
The eyeshadows each measure two and a quarter inches long, by just three eighths of an inch wide.
So the first time I used my New York Color City Duet Eyeshadow, I closed my eye and applied the darker of the two colors, close to my eyelashes, and worked it to the crease in my eyelid. I then used the light beige to go up to my eyebrow and outwards. I then used my finger to blend the colors together.
I loved the fact that the light beige really did highlight my eyes, and make them stand out more. I have small eyes, and have to really work at them, to show any decent result. I then used one of my favorite mascaras to make my eyes look darker.
The eyeshadow has a shimmer to it, and it looked really pretty. I had gone dancing, and unfortunately they still smoke there, so sometimes my eyes run, and it spoils my eye makeup. My eyes looked good all evening.
I had no trouble taking it off with my Estee Lauder gentle eye makeup remover.
I have used this eyeshadow several times over the Christmas holidays, and it has stayed really well, not creased, or flaked. I haven't needed to touch it up either.
The other colors are Upper Zest Side (810B), which is a yellow and beige, Island Sunset (811B), which are blues, Bowling Green (812B), which is a green and blue, SoHo Spice (813A), again blues, and Manhattan Mist (814A) even more blue.
From the website: "Two perfectly coordinated, ultra silky textured shadows brighten and contour eyes. Color glides on smoothly, evenly and really lasts. Dual ended applicator included for professional results!"
Underneath the compact there are directions. You have to lift up the label to find another label beneath it. It states: "Sweep the lighter shade onto you lid. Blend the medium shade into the crease of your eye". It also has a diagram of how they suggest you do it. This would be a little too dramatic for me.

Excellent work ♥
I love to see women wear eye shadow. I think it's great!
My make-up routine is pretty basic - I do use a bit of eye shadow but just stick with a basic shade. Thanks for this review! You are great at looking at the various aspects of a product and then reporting on them. rcj
I don't wear it often but I did wear some over the holidays.
Excellent work ♥ Lori (formerly Zona)
I rarely use eye shadow any more. It just accents the wrinkles.
I haven't worn eye shadow in years! cheers :)
