Robinson Crusoe and the Cursed Pirates is a hidden object game that features puzzles, challenges, and a great storyline. Gamers take on the role of Crusoe who must find the old dead sea captain, Flint, who is responsible for setting a curse on the island and its inhabitants. Players must move from location to location, which can be accomplished by using the in-game map. The goal: to collect black pots, markings left on men that indicate the presence of the curse.
Gameplay is typical for the hidden object portion of the game, with high quality, rich detailed visuals creating quite a challenge in locating the laundry list of objects to find. Adding additional play are objects that must be recovered before others become available, and mini-games in the form of various puzzles that require solving to unlock other objects and areas.
As Crusoe moves from scene to scene, the story slowly unfolds through entertaining and artistically created cut scenes. Once a location has been completed, a black spot is earned in the form of an object. As these black spot objects are collected, players must use them in a potion mixture that is ultimately to be used on Flint to rid the island of the curse. The potion is incrementally created throughout the game as the black spot objects are acquired. By adding the new objects to the current mix, the soon to be final potion is routinely tested on a parrot that has been turned into a monkey by the curse. When the monkey turns in the parrot once again, the potion is ready. In the meantime, the test only has humorous effects on the simian, such as turning him temporarily into a smiley faced coconut.
Players that are new to the game genre can take advantage of a brief tutorial which is helpful in solving the opening sequence of the game, and a relaxed mode that offers an abundance of hints and does not include a game timer. In contrast, survival mode gives seasoned players a timer when searching for objects, and fewer hints to use.
Robinson Crusoe and the Cursed Pirates is a fantastic game in all aspects. A downloadable demo, and the ability to purchase the title for the Windows PC can be found at Big Fish Games.
