Experience Christmas at the Cologne Christmas Markets in Germany

The four main Christmas Markets which attract nearly 2 million visitors a year are held at the Cologne Cathedral, on Rudolfplatz, on Alter Markt and on the Neumarkt.

The market at the Cologne Cathedral held against the backdrop of the stunning cathedral is an impressive sight. Here the vendors display their wares in attractive wooden pavilions beneath the largest Christmas tree in the Rhineland. This market at the heart of Altstadt (Old Town) provides many attractions for children and those young at heart. The market on the Neumarkt is Cologne's oldest Christmas market and is set against the backdrop of the Church St. Aposteln. The market's origins in the seventies can be seen in several of the old stalls still standing. Many artisans display their wares at this market. At the market on Rudolfplatz, large fairy tale figures and plentiful festive lighting provide excitement for the children in the family. Finally the Stadtgarten Market, Cologne's newest market is located alongside Cologne's oldest park.
