Once I had been in Pensacola for a few weeks, I knew I had to find more than a beach to satisfy my entertainment needs. Sure, the water and sand were fine for those beautiful days when you want a romantic time walking with your significant other, and it was great for times when friends just wanted to hang out, but what about when you wanted some culture and depth? How about visiting The Drowsy Poet? The Drowsy Poet is a unique coffee shop full of culture and great coffee. Each of the drinks is named after a well-known poet. My personal favorite is the Shakespeare. It is a great blend of espresso, steamed milk, chocolate, and hazelnut. It is great for those cool evenings when you just want to sit back and relax. There are also plenty of tables for meetings, games, or just reading your favorite book. To top it all off, there is a player piano that fills the place with great classical music. The Drowsy Poet is definitely somewhere you will want to frequent in Pensacola.
Once you have your fill of The Drowsy Poet, you should definitely make the drive to the Naval Aviation Museum. Located on the Pensacola Naval Air Station, you can enjoy the history of Naval Aviation through this hands-on learning experience. Here you will find a lot of different historic artifacts, as well as beautifully restored aircraft. There is a delicious café inside where you can relax and have the whole day to experience all the museum has to offer. There is even an IMAX Aviation film to watch in the museums theater.
No matter what you choose to do while you are in Pensacola, whether you are visiting or you are living there, be sure to go beyond the surface of the beaches and surf shops to experience the real Pensacola, Florida.
