Explore for Dinosaurs in Utah and Colorado

Regina Sass
Back to the land before time began, when the dinosaurs roamed the earth undisturbed. When there was nothing but blue skies and green forests. You can spend a week in Colorado and Utah exploring that time and those dinosaurs. Explore on the Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Highway at you own pace, stop where you want for as long as you want and experience a different time, a different place, a different world.

Keep checking with the web sites. Most of these are outdoor adventures and subject to closing. For that reason it is good to keep your schedule flexible, keep open to change. Respect the animals and the land, so they will be there for the generations to come.

Start your journey in the city of Fuita, Colorado right near the Utah boarder at the Museum of Western Colorado's Dinosaur Journey Museum. Not only can you tour the museum and literally get your hands on authentic dinosaur bones, but they offer one to five day dinosaur dig trips. YOU can go to an actual excavation and join the scientists in really exploring the far, far distant past.

Dinosaur National Monument, Utah
Here is where you can really explore, go hiking where the bones are found, go white water rafting. The visitor center is temporarily closed, but there is still plenty to do. Keep checking back with their site on the progress of the center.

Utah Field House of Natural History
State Park Museum
496 East Main Street
Vernal, Utah
This one will let you explore more than the dinosaurs. You get to find out other details about the time of the dinosaurs, the geology and other facts that affected the dinosaurs and how they lived and died. The young people can get some hands on experiences and dig for bones themselves.

Red Fleet State Park Utah
How would you like the opportunity to take a walk in actual dinosaur footsteps, ones that were made and preserved by nature thousands of years ago? You will get a feel for just how big these babies actually were. There is plenty more to do here and the landscape is so magical you will want to stay and do as much as you can. As a matter of fact, they do have a campground and this is the perfect place to overnight and get the chance to do as much as you can. Explore the land one day and the water the next. The reservoir is there for boating and fishing.

Canyonlands National Park Utah
No artist who ever lived or who ever will live can recreate the beauty in this park. The natural rock formations that have been formed buy eon upon eon of erosion, eating the sandstone away a minuscule bit a year will leave you astonished beyond belief.

Fisher Towers Recreation Area, Utah
Fisher Towers Recreation Area is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. It lies alongside the Colorado River and is a great place to end your trip, one more place to explore.
