Nickelodeon tells you at the beginning of the show what the show emphasizes like problem solving.
It is educational on several levels. The first being that the characters, Boots and Dora attempt to engage the child by asking questions and pausing for an answers. Another way Dora excels is the directions are repeated which is great for small children, even as small as 14 months. Dora draws the child into the episode and allows the child to feel they are helping. Sometimes young children get lost in the shuffle and are sometimes told they are too little to help. Dora and Diego both introduce Spanish which is important to do at a young age. Learning Spanish at an older age is considerably more difficult for an older child or an adult.
Dora the explorer sometimes is sandwiched between two other great educational shows, Blue's Clues. Blue's Clues can be considered a pioneer in these concepts. Then of course there is her cousin Diego, which can sometimes follow Dora giving you a double shot of Spanish lessons as well. It is important to note that at the same time these shows are sometimes on the other channels are some really suggestible and violent cartoons. This really illuminates the importance of these shows.
Nickelodeon has a great morning line of for the kids. Shows like Diego, Dora, Blue and The Backyardigans do a great job at engaging the little ones and sometimes the adults too. The music is catchy and the education more importantly very much present within the episodes. It is very important to notice when Nick Jr. is over because the programming and commercials quickly change to a much older content.
