The Central American country of Costa Rica is so biologically diverse that it boasts over 15 different ecosystems. Costa Rica has almost 25% of its land protected and has 75 national parks. These wildlife refuges and reserves are nestled between the mountains and pristine tropical rain forests.
For adventurers, it is surprising the variety of things to do and see. There are activities to suit all travelers from surfing, horseback riding, hiking, and deep sea fishing Costa Rica has something to offer to everyone at any age.
The main forms of traveling inside the country include driving taking, the bus, or hiring a taxi. If renting a vehicle for your trip, it is recommended you travel using a 4x4 vehicle. Drive will also need an excellent map and a GPS satellite tracking system in order to drive safely through the countryside. The reason for having both a map and a GPS system is because signposts along the highway and cities are not always accurate.
One adventure trip to take is a visit to Monteverde from Fortuna. The travel distance for this trip is 73 miles one way and that drive time will take you over 7 hours. Fortuna city lies in the shadow of the Arenal Volcano. The Arenal Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, so make sure you visit this natural wonder and area around it.
It is not recommend that you take this trip during Costa Rica's rainy season because it will be a tough drive and travelers could be exposed to landslides. Drivers can expect unpaved roads for the last twenty miles of the trip to Monteverde so expect holes and steep areas. One thing to definitely enjoy on this little adventure is a trip to the Monteverde Waterfall at the GPS coordinates of s10° 18' 45.50" N 84° 49' 33.74" W.
For those adventurers who don't feel comfortable with driving unescorted through Costa Rica there are a variety of cheap vacation packages available by touring companies based in the country. These trips often provide transportation, lodging and a bi-lingual guide for the duration of the trip. For people traveling to Costa Rica for the first time this may be their best option on seeing the diverse and natural beauty of the county.
It's important to know few things while staying in Costa Rica. There is a rest of malaria in some regions in traveler should take proper precautions to avoid exposure. The best protection against a variety of diseases in Costa Rica is to prevent insect bites. So, taking precautions against insects both during the day and at night is essential. Also it is very important to drink only bottled water and also use it when brushing your teeth. Medical Services are reliable in the main cities however it is best that you bring your own first aid kit. Check with your government on its recommendations on current health precautions can be found and travel advisories.
Safety is another issue that is important when traveling to Costa Rica. Incidents of violent crime against tourists have been reported. Travelers to Costa Rica should travel light and watched your belongings at all times especially in public places. Theft from cars is common so avoid leaving belongings in your car. This includes the trunk. Travel with safety in mind to avoid incidents.
Adventure travel in Costa Rica can be fun and rewarding. The beaches of Costa Rica and its hotels our wonderful place to stay. Tourists can choose or variety of ways a visiting this country from packaged tours to individual travel. Either way it's important to do your research and plan before you make your trip to Costa Rica.

I always love reading your narratives...they are so fun and lively! I hope that you are enjoying your time with your husband in Colorado! I just wanted to share that I enjoy Fleet Foxes and get the same feeling you do when listening to them, in concert its magical! BTW the stinky cheese could have been queso fresco...fresh cheese.
