Explosions in the Sky - All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone

John Walton
Explosions in the sky has had their various albums in my collection for some time now, but their new album, "All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone", really takes it a step above the rest. The entire CD flows together seamlessly, each track benefiting in some way from the one before it. They really capture the feeling and flow of a gentle river and put it to music. All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone evokes almost every emotion at some point in the album.

I suggest everyone that reads this go out and buy it whether you have heard of the band or not. I will admit their style is unique, long running songs in an instrumental, progressive style, but i absolutely love it. I also have trouble sleeping and this CD is so relaxing I'm usually asleep before its over. I think anyone who gives them a chance will feel the same way. I'm not sure i could list my favorite songs from the CD because they all flow together into one complete piece of art, but if i had to single a few songs out i usually listen to either "The Birth and Death of Day" or "Welcome Ghosts".

The band has a few of these songs on their myspace and i would encourage you listen to them. The band as a whole is one of the most talented bands i have heard in a long time. I would put their new album right up there with Pink Floyd. They have a similar style to "Godspeed you Black Emperor!" but with shorter more up beat songs. If you have never experienced modern instrumental progressive music i would suggest this band as a prime example of the genre and an excellent starting point into a style of music i hope you will come to love.

To many pop bands today put out one decent song on the radio to dupe you into buying a whole CD of filler and that one radio release, so its welcome relief that i really don't have a single complaint about the entire album All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone as i think its perfect in its entirety. If you do like the CD i also highly recommend their second CD "Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever" and their third release "The World is not a Cold Dead Place"
