Exposing Your Children to a Variety of Different Music Genres

Laura Fleenor
Music has the magnificent power to change a mood, your thoughts, and broaden your mind. If you have ever watched what happens in a toddlers behavior when you turn on some music, you will agree that music changes behavior. Many individuals have come to believe, in recent years, that classical music played for toddlers and babies, will actually make them more intelligent. Individuals need diversity in their lives to expand their minds, and develop healthy relationships, and music aids in this process.

Many toddlers love to sing and dance, so letting them listen to music, can give them something to go on. Singing along to the radio is a great way to enhance your singing abilities, and by singing the words to a song, they are also improving their language skills. Everything you learn in life requires practice to perfect, and singing, dancing and speaking are no different. Allowing toddlers to develop their own musical tastes and preferences and enhances their personality allowing them to become their own person, and not just a copy of their parents.

It is important to let your children experience the freedoms an individual can feel due to music. Music has the ability of making many people feel a sense of euphoria, just by listening to the sound coming out of their speakers. Let your toddlers develop their own unique personality starting by letting them listen to the type of music they enjoy. You can do this by watching their reactions to different types of music. See which types of music bring a smile to your toddler's face, and maybe even gets them dancing about in elation. Many people love a variety of music, and you should experiment playing various different types of music to coincide with the various moods of your children.

Music has always been a part of my life, and since I was a baby, my parents introduced me to a variety of different types of music, from gospel to classical to rock and roll, and I believe that it has played a major role in who I am today. I have exposed my children to music in the same ways that my parents exposed me, and their personalities show it. I believe that exposing my children to a variety of different musical genres has made them become more well rounded individuals. I do not think that there is anything wrong with any type of music, though there are some specific bands who continually have a very poor choice in lyrics, so you should always listen to the music yourself before allowing your toddler to listen to the music.

In closing, there are many different types of music that include music made specifically for the toddler in mind, and these types of albums are typically very educational. If your child likes to sing, what a better way to help them learn, than to sing about things. Did you sing your ABC's as a child, or just say them? Most people share a love of music, but sadly there are many people who seem very close minded when it comes to experiencing different genres. Free your mind and listen to many different types of music before settling on one specific type.

Me too! I was raised up with a wide variety of music and that's probably why I still like much of it today. Very good article!

This is very true, your article. In fact, I know many parents who were committed to playing soothing music to their unborn children while they were still in the womb.

Great article! I was raised listening to various types of music, so I raised my children the same way. While they are free to have thier own likes and dislikes, I expect them to at least give everything a chance.

I'm one of those babies whom were given worldly music education from childbirth. I think it is a wonderful idea and can really improve the activity on the left side of your brain. Good Arti!

I grew up only liking a few types of music, but I like so many different genres now. You find yourself exposed to a lot of different music if you go away to college. Tastes change as you get older too.
