It's impossible to get discovered by anyone on AC. I'm much better off just sitting at my computer and banging my head on the keyboard.
Truth:
Stop! Before you hurt your brain and the few precious brain cells that you might have left, you should know that getting discovered on AC is a lot easier than you might think! An Interview with Donald Pennington is just one of the neat tools that can help you.
Lie #2:
It can't happen to me. I'm not a great writer. I'm not popular enough - everyone else has more cool nifty rings flying around them than my little speck of a dot, and besides, no one wants to hear about the real "me" anyway.
Truth:
It can happen to you! Anyone can get discovered by an Interview with Donald Pennington. Yes, even you, the littlest dot that you think no one is looking at! You'll be surprised that many writers and visitors to the AC community actually enjoy getting to know the "real" people hiding behind the cool, strange, and quirky avatars. Sure, interesting articles are great, but knowing that a real interesting person exists somewhere out there in cyberspace really does create more of a connection to your audience.
Lie #3:
Interviews are silly and it's not like they'll increase my page views anyway!
Truth:
Umm...it's your interview, your answers? So, if your interview is silly, it will only be silly because you wanted to let everyone know that you have this really awesome zany personality! If you think you are just a stick in the mud anyway, you're probably right - your interview probably won't increase your page views, so you shouldn't bother doing one.
Leveling Truth:
Psst...if you're not a stick in the mud, here's a helpful hint. Bang your head on that keyboard and see for yourself just how much your PV increases! (I'm not telling, but I am writing this review not because Donald asked me too and I think he's a nice guy, but because I have found out that his idea really is a rather cool one! Thanks Donald!)
Lie #4:
My interview is the best one that Donald Pennington has ever published.
Truth:
Absolutely not! Mine has typos, that are, or course, my own fault! However, I'd still love for folks to send me a quick note about placing a dog treat under a can. I sort of feel like I should sponsor a contest or something here on AC to try and "uncover" which CP has the smartest dog! (Hey, now that's a great idea for my next article...stay tuned, I'll start working on that one immediately!)
Leveling Truth:
Donald Pennington's interview with his mom is my absolute favorite! Anyone who does an interview with his mom on AC for a Mother's Day gift is truly a much more genuine and creative guy than the traditional card and flowers type.
Lie #5:
If you do an interview with Donald Pennington, you have to reciprocate and write him a favorable review.
Truth:
Though I believe returning a favor results in good karma, I would not say anything positive about something if I sincerely felt that it was in no way, shape or form of benefit to me whatsoever. Truth be told, most of us wouldn't, so I'm just willing to admit that. I'm also willing to admit that you should not expect AC to pay you a dime for doing it either. (Show me the money? No!!)
Leveling Truth:
To be frank, I've been particularly slow to write this review as I really had no idea what to write. When I thought about Donald Pennington, I looked at his funny flashing caution yellow avatar, and (for some crazy reason) the only thing that popped into my mind was an image of Paddington Bear eating marmalade! That, and since Donald's from Amarillo, Texas it then became Paddington Bear, eating marmalade jelly, while singing, "Amarillo by morning, Amarillo is where I'll be..."
(Sorry Donald, I still can't believe I'm admitting that but it's the gosh honest truth!)
Anyway, my interview with Donald Paddington (oops! I meant Pennington) was a lot of fun! I definitely now feel like a yellow rose of Texas and next time I'm out in Amarillo you can bet I'll stop in and bring that bear of a fellow named Donald some marmalade and a cup of coffee!
Thanks again, Donald! Oh, and I made sure I spelled your name correctly too!

Post a CommentI can't really ever thank you enough for doig such a cool piece on the interview process. But I say...Show me the MONEYYYYY!
Very entertaining article, but I get my page hits the old fashioned way, I work at it through social networking on-line. It takes time and is hard work, but it pays off. I'm such a small dot on the horizon no one big would ever want to interview me out of the millions of writers on AC.
A pleasing spread of marmalade for my Friday the 13th toast - thanks, LT...(smile). M
