Extended Stay America Suites in Glen Burnie, Maryland

This writer travels extensively back and forth across the United States for business, staying in many different lodgings. Traveling with a pooch adds a new dimension to the hotel/motel search.

Recently finding myself and pooch in Glen Burnie Maryland - we (pooch and I) chose the Extended Stay America Suites just off of Colonel Richie Highway - on Chesapeake Centre Ct.

Extended Stay Suites is part of a chain of hotels including Extended Stay Deluxe, Homestead Studio Suites, Crossland and Studio Plus. Visit the website at (Extendedstay.com) to find links to all the above.

Upon arrival at Glen Burnie Extended Stay, pooch and I found that the rates are great- averaging $50.00 a night based on a monthly rate. Weekly rates are a little higher and may vary slightly based on hotel location. There is a non-refundable one-time pet fee of $150.00.

The Extended Stay America rooms are large one room suites with efficiency kitchens providing a two burner stove, dishes for two, toaster, coffee pot, but no dishwasher. Cleaning services may be purchased for $25.00 extra on a once-a-week basis. Yep - you are on your own as far as cleaning unless you want to pay the extra charge. However the staff is absolutely wonderful and you can trade your towels and sheets in every day if you want!

Week mornings the hotel offers free coffee - but no continental breakfast as at other chains. Toilet paper, paper towels, coffee packets for the in room 4-cup coffee maker are provided if asked for. You are also responsible for removal of your own trash.

On an up-side - while staying at this facility - the management threw a cookout for the guests and it was great. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, potato salad, baked beans - and even gift boxes of milk bones for all the pooch-guests! Get-to-gethers can't be beat when traveling. The cook-out lasted for about 4 hours - refreshments included soft drinks and beer. It's funny how all the dogs got along - seeming to also enjoy the fellowship.

There are grills available for guests to use, both gas and charcoal, placed by a shaded area with a picnic table.

Location just off of Col. Ritchie Highway places the hotel within convenient driving to many really good eateries and fun shopping areas. Marley Mall is just a few miles down the Ritchie Highway. A few blocks away (as the crow flies) is Wal-Mart and in the other direction just a few blocks is A.C. Moore - a really great craft store.

Down-side to this location... car break-ins happened on a weekly basis during our stay. This facility is near shopping centers and regularly patrolled by police but nothing seemed to thwart the criminals. The signs posted outside stating to remove all valuables from your vehicle need to be heeded - even stuff with no value was taken. Windows broken out - convertible tops slashed, locks cut off of trailers... need I go on??

In concluding this article I have to again state that the management and staff of this Extended Stay America (Extendedstay.com) is wonderful. Aside from the break-ins limited to the parking lot (which is well lit, but without camera surveillance at this time) I have to say I enjoyed my time (3 months) at this hotel. My pooch enjoyed interacting with the staff, and they were welcoming to all animals.

This facility is on my list of places to stay again if every in the Glen Burnie area, however I'd recommend parking directly under a light in the parking lot, and only in the front parking section.
