Extinction of the American Muscle Cars

WRITER
The American Muscle Cars are facing extinction. The high gasoline prices have driven many drivers to give up there love for the Hot Rod. We are changing with the technology and adapting to the newer gas efficient vehicles. Somewhere in my heart I still hear the rumbling of my previous vehicles. The sound of the 5.7 liter engine on my Chevrolet Comaro Z28 and Mustang 5.0 was tougher than ever. The time when I was enjoying the 350 horsepower down the highway is nothing but a memory. The memories will never be forgotten.

I have seen some changes in time when GM discontinued the Comaro and Trans Am back in 2002. However, we still had the Mustang and the promise to bring back the Comaro was good enough. Yet something is still missing on the roads in America today. History has gone astray. The Ford Mustang had been with the American culture back from the 1960's and the Comaro has been with us since the 1970's. Today I see less and less of these vehicles on the roads.

Majority of the vehicles I see on the roads are gas efficient, compact vehicles. This is how Toyota has become one of the most dominate automobile manufacturers followed by Honda. I see that American history in automobile has begun to change. The once accepted V-8 gas guzzlers are no longer acceptable or affordable.

Recently General Motors states that they are reevaluating the productions of the Hummer and many other trucks. They might slow down production or even stop production completely. Then they are going to use these production plants to build gas friendly vehicles. Many American automobile manufacturers are struggling to meet sales. So they are going to change their strategy and create gas efficient vehicles. They are just going to give up the vehicles that brought the company to where they are now.

I do believe that when the time is here for us to say our goodbyes to the American Muscle. It will be greatly missed by millions of Americans across the nation. The pride and joy of the muscle car has final met its biggest competition, the gasoline price. There will be new trends of vehicles that will hit the American highways soon. Sometimes it is good for us to keep up with the technology with other countries. I do know though the throttle, engine, power, and exhaust sounds will always remain in many hearts.

Great thoughts! Yes I think we've reach the day when gas efficiency has to rule the road...at least for us working folks.

I had a Z-28 in my younger years. Now I couldn't aford the gas to crank it much less drive it. Nice work on the article!

Nice job! My first car was a Chevy Chevelle. It was my grandmother's. I know someone else who had one and it was more of a muscle car than mine :-)
