Principal photography has now begun on J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" films, in New Zealand, and the casting directors will be hiring extras, stand-ins, photo doubles, and size doubles to work throughout filming which will take place over an extended 14 month period.

Peter Jackson directed all three "Lord of the Rings" films, which earned a total of 30 Academy Award nominations and 17 Academy Awards. Jackson will also direct "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" and "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" back-to-back. Shooting will take place using special high-tech 3D cameras as was done on "Avatar".

For any non-New Zealand residents who would like to be considered to work as extras on The Hobbit films, tourist visas to New Zealand are currently valid for 90 days. A number of countries have working holiday visa schemes with New Zealand; they are generally valid for 12 months and allow you to work for up to three months at a time
