The Leomiti family made an honorable choice when they opened their home to five orphaned children living next door to them. The Higgins family lost both of their parents within two months of each other and was left with large amounts of unpaid bills and funeral expenses. The five children ranging in age from mid-teens to early twenties were living in a rented apartment with no food to eat when the Leomiti family decided to take them in. According to the Leomiti's, "These kids had nowhere to go and we knew as a family we couldn't let the streets swallow them up." The producers of the hit T.V. show accepted the application from the Leomiti's and soon signed contracts for sole rights to their story and contracts to build a house they could house their now 10 person family in. How could such a gift go wrong?
Soon after the home was finished and the Leomiti's and Higgins' families moved in, life changed. According to the Higgins' children, the Leomitis began verbally abusing them on a regular basis. The children claim they were called "stupid" and "lazy" by the Leomiti's and negative "race-based remarks" about their hair and clothing was used against them in the home. The families only residing in the house together for a couple of weeks before each of the children moved out one after the other. A lawsuit filed against ABC, the Leomiti's and parent company Walt Disney not only accuses the Leomiti's of fraud based on the aforementioned statements, but ABC of fraud as well. The Higgins claim they were told the house was to be built for them when in fact the now paid off mortgage is held by the Leomiti's alone.
It is evident that ABC has managed to earn more than $500 million in advertising revenue from marketing people's disadvantages. This is not about philanthropy, but rather about making money. The Higgins siblings understand this and want what they claim they were promised.
ABC refused to comment on the lawsuit.

Post a CommentI never dreamed that so much could and has gone wrong. It sounds like ABC EHM needs to do more research on the facts and make sure that the paperwork involving homes/pd.loans are put in more detailed terms that protect everyone. Like, if it didin't work out at this home mentioned, the paperwork have a clause that says if such things happen the home is to be sold and the money spit by 2. This would protect both families. And it might stop families from pretending to love and take in others just to get a free home, etc. And in my opinion when a family is choosen they should be thankful for the new home and new vehicle. Instead of the people on tonights show (1-16-2011) bringing up a list they want done for others. Don't get me wrong, I so believe in Charity work. But I don't think someone needing an engagement ring would be a charity. Many people get married with just a band. If I were that family I would spend my time thinking of how to fix my car, house, childrens n

How rude are people on here! Listen "Rooting 4 Leomitis" do you hear yourself right now? You sound like the one who has a problem. Not the Higgins. To say that they would still be on the street today is just so racist and hurtful. Don't you realize that you are making it seem like the Leomitis are the ones who have done wrong. From how you reacted to the comment below you I would say that it is true. The Leomitis used those kids to gain a new home. Greedy! Greedy! Greedy! They just lost their parents. Don't you or the Leomitis have a heart? To use their heartache to gain a new home is just sick! I hope the Higgins win against those money hungry Leomitis! I'm praying that they win. *fingers crossed*
Wow those Leomitis sound like a bunch of greety bastards. I have to admit at first when I saw the show I thought they were good people. But now it seems like all of their lies are coming forward. I will pray for the Higgins kids. It must of been hard to lose your parents in such a short amount of time. I can't believe this person below me "Rooting 4 Leomitis" can actually be on the side of these devils. What a world we live in. God knows the Higgins story is true. I sure believe. They must of only took those kids in to get freebies. They basically used them. Keep your head up Charis A. Good times are coming.
The Leomiti's are some of the most caring people on this earth. Granted they may have had house rules, like any parents, they would say "if you don't like our rules, you can leave". It was your own choice to leave. To the comment posted saying how can they claim to be christians? You'd better be asking yourself the same damn question! The house belonged to Phil & Loki before you got there. The truth is, it still belongs to them. The fact is, we were all asked if we thought the Leomiti's were a derserving family. With that ABC rewarded the LEOMITI'S for their act of kindness. They welcomed 5 extra people into their home when they didn't have much room, just to keep a family together and off the streets. In my opinion, Higgin's kids, you would've probably been exactly where you are today only sooner if it weren't for them!! The article stated, "The Higgins claim they were told the house was to be built for them when in fact the now paid off mortgage is held by the Leomiti's alone." It's
None of what the Leomiti family has said is true. Yes, there were rules and we all followed those rules. They are good liars. I will give them that. Their rules were focused only to put us down and lower our spirits. Why would you do that to people who have just lost their mother and father? We were trying to recover. We were emotionally hurt. And to have people take advantage of you just to fill their greed is just sick. They claim to people Christians but please tell me why they do not act as Christians? Its a sad sad story. We did not just get up and leave. Were were forced out. There are many ways to force someone out of somewhere. Of course there will be people who question what I mean by this, but its clearly there to see. I will not get into detail about anything because we have told our story already and its up to you to believe it or not. All I have to say is that all the evil deeds they have done to my family will come to judgement from God. So far it seems like they are suff
