Extreme Sports for Families

Spending time as a family is not as common as it once was. Today family members all seem to have their own agendas and schedules and these schedules rarely intersect. If you want to improve your bond with your significant other and your kids then consider participating in extreme sports for families. There are several highly adventurous options to choose between including mountain climbing, ice climbing, mountainboarding and mountain biking.

Mountain Climbing

Mountain climbing is a great sport for families as it relies on team work and team planning. It is also a sport that can be adjusted to meet the physical abilities of your family. You can start out with hiking trips on soft incline trails and gradually work your way up to scaling sheer cliff walls. As your family's mountain climbing skills improve you will be able to tackle more challenging climbs.

Ice Climbing

If you all enjoy mountain climbing, but are interested in an even more challenging extreme sport, then consider ice climbing as a family. Ice climbing is a sport that involves climbing up glaciers and ice cliffs. This is a great winter sport for those families that like to stay active and who are not afraid of hard work and tough challenges.

Mountain Biking

If you have younger kids then mountain biking is a great extreme sport that you can try out. Mountain biking, like mountain climbing, can be tailored to the physical abilities and special needs of each family member. Young kids can ride their bikes on easy trails and as they mature and their biking skills develop your family can tackle more challenging positive and negative inclines.

Mountainboarding

One of the newest extreme family sports is called mountainboarding. Mountainboarding is a cross between snowboarding and mountain biking. It involves a board that has all-terrain wheels attached. These boards work well on paved surfaces, as well as on rough backcountry terrain. You can go cross country on these boards or you can surf down hill.

Skateboarding

Skateboarding is a very popular extreme sport that tweens, teens and adults can enjoy. If your kids are interested in skateboarding then consider taking up the sport as well. As a skateboarding family you can invest in building your own ramps and half pipes, you can practice tricks at local skateparks and you can even train to participate in skateboarding competitions. This is a great way to bond with your kids during the difficult years between 12 and 18.
