Extreme Trouble Reporting a Child Sex Crime

On 9-6-07 I was told by a 20 year old man that his girlfriend is only 15 years and that he had sex with her. In the short time I had known him I had overheard him speaking to his girlfriend on the phone several times. He used explicit sexual language and spoke to her about performing specific sexual acts. Texas law requires that persons with knowledge of abuse of a child,elderly or disabled person are to report it. There was an 18 year old friend there of the 20 year old who confirmed his story and provided other details which explained many things prior to this. When I told the men to leave they became argumentative. I had my cousins cell phone in my hand at that time as he was asleep from his medication and diabetes. When I went to call 911 to have the men removed and report this crime involving the 15 year old girl, the 20 year old attacked me to get the phone. When he attacked me, the 18 year old reached inside the door of the trailer and took out a 12 Gage shotgun that was fully loaded. I was forced to give up the phone. The 20 year old walked away some and called 911 and said a man was running around with a gun. I told the men they just needed to leave. The 18 year old fired a shot at my feet. As soon as he shot I went for the gun. The 20 year old went in the door to grab another gun and I did not have time to wrestle for the shotgun so I pushed the 18 year old down and ran for cover around an open shed area that had all kinds of stuff in it. The 18 year old followed the route I took as he was after me. The 20 year old went around the other way to intercept me. As they moved cautiously in the pitch dark night I made a noise on purpose to draw the 18 year old to where I was. I moved quickly and quietly away from the spot as my life depended on it. The 18 year old moved to where I was and the 20 year old entered the shed area to investigate the noise too. I had made my way around a big metal structure at the end of the shed and I tossed a half empty can over into the shed area behind where the 20 year old had entered.It was to my advantage to have them silhouetted against the light from the trailer. As I tossed the can I ran the opposite direction. It made a loud noise and I heard a shot. I expected to feel hot lead penetrate my flesh. Instead I heard the 20 year old scream "You shot me in the butt!". Shortly after that I heard another gunshot which I discovered later had entered my driver side truck door. The diversion caused the 20 year old to think I was heading in the direction of my truck when in fact I ran into the woods. The 18 year old came towards the wooded area rubbing the gun on his pants and he had the gun laying across his arms when he tossed it into the bushes not far from where I was. When he got far enough away I checked the gun to see that it was still loaded because the 20 year old could figure out what I did and come after me in the wooded area I ran to hide in. I needed the weapon in case I could retreat no further due to the swamp and fence. It wasn't long before I heard the police radio approaching the wooded area and I called out to them. I left the shotgun where it was and told them it was still loaded and to be careful. I was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. When I tried to tell the Port Arthur police what happened they told me they don't believe a word I am saying because the man was shot in the butt.

The two men told police that I pulled a gun on them and just freaked out for nothing. The police would not hear my story. I asked for an attorney but they would not give me one. I was released with the charges still pending. I called the Groves police department to report the 20 year old having sex with the 15 year old and I was told that it had to be a family member that reports molestation. The 15 year old girls parents allow the 20 year old man to come stay with their daughter overnight from time to time. That leaves nobody else to protect her. This has been going on for quite a while even back as the girl was 14 years old. I then called the Beaumont resident agency of the F.B.I. and reported what the police had told me. Minutes later I received a call to come to the Groves police department and fill out a witness statement on the crime. I also reported this crime to the Department Of Family And Protective Services at their website online. To date I see no evidence that the 15 year old little girl has received any help.

The Port Arthur police investigation did not find the 30/30 bullet in my truck door. And they did not do a gunpowder residue test on anyone to see who fired a weapon. They did confiscate all of the guns, but they still will not hear the truth. The day after I was arrested the 18 and 20 year old were going to the high school football game to pick up girls. The day after that they were going to a beach party for an underage friend of the underage girlfriend of the 20 year old where they vowed to have sex with the girls. The 18 year old was my roommate and I had kicked him out for continuing to pursue underage girls. I even had to destroy my cell phone because of that. Now the police department has perpetuated whatever crimes may have been committed by those men as the conclusion was drawn that because the 20 year old was shot in the buttocks, I did it. And a deaf ear was turned to the truth. Meanwhile that 15 year old little girl still remains in danger.

So much hoopla is made about tracking sex offenders, but what about when you know a crime is being committed against a child while police and State authorities do nothing about it? How does this happen in this age of information and modern communication? Who is to blame? What can be done about this? These questions are in the forefront as I sit back and can do nothing else but watch as this sexually deviant man walks the street to prey on the young girls of Sabine Pass Texas with the aid of his 18 year old accomplice.
