Extremely Busy Restaurant: Beverly's La Croisette

Tourists and Locals Use It

Susan Slade
A few weeks ago we were in Treasure Island, and it was just before Christmas. We were invited to a Christmas get together, and the place they always have it is Beverly's La Croisette.

It was around 11 a.m., and the traffic was fairly heavy. We followed friends as this was our first visit, and didn't have the address. We went south on Gulf, and headed towards Corey Avenue. We saw the restaurant too late, and had to go round a block, to get back to it.

It has very little parking, so we went past it, and managed to find a space on the street. We walked back to the restaurant, and entered it. The rest of our party had 2 tables pushed together, right in the center. There were 8 of us.

I looked around the restaurant and they really pack the tables close together, to get as many people seated, as they can. It was chairs pushed in tights, and elbows in, for the duration of our visit.

Our menus were in front of us, and within a few minutes we all had our coffee, tea, diet soda, and water.

As all of our friends had eaten there before, we asked what they suggested. The answer came back, that they have only ever eaten breakfast there, and everything was good.

We did ask the server if lunch was available, as it was now after 11:30 a.m., and she said that they were serving breakfast, but she could ask, if anyone chose from the lunch menu.

I figured that I would try one of the signature croissant dishes, as I can get eggs anywhere. I went for the eggs, Canadian bacon, and brie on a croissant. This came with home fries. Len decided on biscuits and gravy, because I don't normally let him have it, with his diabetes, and heart problems. Others on our table had omelets, croissants, steak, and crepes.

The restaurant was really buzzing, people leaving, and immediately the tables being taken.

Our server came back with refills of drinks for us.

There was a wait for the food, but we had so much to talk about, that it really didn't matter. If it had just been Len and myself, it might have been frustrating.

My croissant sandwich was huge. I was very pleased about that, as I hardly ate any of the home fries. They were overdone for me. Len started to eat his biscuits and gravy, and found it to be a little dry. He got our server's attention, and asked for a little more gravy. She came back with almost a cup full.

The crepes looked wonderful, and the friend that ate them said that they were amazing. I think I will try them next time. I also was surprised at the size of the pancakes, as they filled the plates.

One person on our table didn't get their home fries with the meal. The server said they would be straight up, and they didn't come out, until after we had finished eating. They we taken off the check.

I did have to hunt down our server for more coffee, after we had finished eating. She was so busy, that I felt she ignored us, thinking that we were done.

The atmosphere is friendly, it is very cozy, as you are so close together, and the meals are huge. The prices for breakfast ran around $7.95 to $9.95, which are not bad for a tourist area. Although many of the locals eat at La Croisette too.

The croissants sounds good! Cheap prices! At least compared to here (Alaska) where everything is overpriced.
