First, let's look at the daytime technique. Usually for daytime you will want to wear your eye makeup more subtle and softer than you would for the evening. Lighter tones and shades work well for the daytime. When using browns and beiges I would start out with applying the lightest off white or beige color you have and apply it over entire lid. "Champagne" from Cover Girl is what I use and it has a hint of sparkle to it which I love and really makes your eyes stand out. I then use the medium shade and put just inside the crease of the eyelid. Using the darker brown and the smallest tip of the applicator apply a thin line directly under the light brown. Use your blush brush or a cotton ball and gently blend together.
Another technique when applying color is instead of putting the color in the crease you work from the outer corner of your eye to just inside the crease. This is a great dramatic look which could work for both day and evening. Again, you want to always blend the colors softly with a cotton ball or brush.
Let's talk about how to get that great smoky eye look for the evening. It's really not hard to do once you know what you are doing. Basically all you need is a trio of charcoal colors. Start with the lightest color and apply it over entire lid. Next apply the medium color from your eyelash line to the crease in your lid. You will want to blend well. Use cotton ball or brush as stated before. Then, using the smallest brush apply the darker color to your crease. This is basically the same step as the aforementioned daytime look but using darker colors. Once again, be sure and blend all colors well. For a more dramatic look apply a thin line of eyeliner at the eyelash line. You can also add a line on the bottom lashes too. Add a few coats of black mascara and you are good to go!
Now this article just touches on a few colors but the techniques will work with any color trio you have. It is basically the lighter color over entire lid, medium color in crease with darker color directly under it.
Now go and experiment and have fun with those eyes!
