Eye-Fi X2 Wireless SDHC Memory Cards

Upload Your Photos to Your Computer Without a Cord!

We've gotten to the point where wires are the enemy. The mere presence of a cord connecting your digital camera to a computer is a nuisance. If cords are cumbersome and wireless is wonderful, then you need to get an Eye-Fi X2 Wireless SDHC Memory Card. For summation's sake, henceforth I will refer to it as an Eye-Fi card.

An Eye-Fi card is a memory card very similar to the one that is in your digital camera right now. There are three models, 1 which has 4GB of memory, and 2 with 8GB. As far as memory capacity they are exactly the same as a normal SDHC memory card. The cards also feature a Class 6 read and write speed. That's fast enough for DSLR's, point & shoot cameras, and camcorders. The main difference is how they transfer the pictures from the camera to the computer. Instead of requiring a physical connection via a transfer cable, the Eye-Fi card transfers pictures and videos wirelessly. Let's talk about some of the more specific features.

There are 2 ways an Eye-Fi card can transfer pictures and videos wirelessly. The first is through your wireless network at home. As soon as you come home, turn your computer and camera on. Your camera will access your computer using software provided with the Eye-Fi card and transfer the media to a folder specified by you. The second method uses a feature called Direct Mode. Direct Mode is when the Eye-Fi card creates its own network if there is no other Wi-Fi network available. Direct Mode creates the ultimate convenience because it allows you to transfer media to your computer, Smartphone or tablet anywhere, anytime! And don't worry; it's compatible with all major brands.

Another nifty feature is what is called Endless Memory Mode. I think this is the most useful feature of the Eye-Fi card. Isn't it annoying when you're out taking picture, having a good time, and all of a sudden you realize you're out of space? Instead of enjoying and recording the moment you're stuck deleting old stuff. Endless Memory Mode automatically frees up space as your photos are safely uploaded. Basically, it takes the task of deleting old stuff out of your hands.

The software that comes with an Eye-Fi card is called the Eye-Fi Center. Here, you can designate a download location, add up to 32 networks to your card, customize your card's settings, and e-mail media to your friends and family. This software also makes it easy to upload your videos and photos to any 1 of 25 sharing and printing sites. These sites include: Facebook, Picasa, and YouTube. Eye-Fi View is a program which can be utilized by any internet connected device to view, share or download your photos or videos from anywhere.

Last but not least, let me tell you about the 3 different models available. The first and most basic is the Eye-Fi Connect X2 4GB Class 6 SDHC Memory Card. I know it's a mouthful but the next 2 will be shorter. The next model is the same, except it has an 8GB capacity. The last model is the one of notable difference. The Eye-Fi Pro X2 is an 8GB Class 6 Memory Card which comes with 1 year of free hotspot access. It is capable of RAW file transfers and Ad Hoc connectivity. The coolest feature of this model is that automatic geotagging. Geotagging captures the coordinates for every single picture you take. This way, you could create a map of your photos!
