Eyelets and Brads Add Dimension and Interest to Your Scrapbook Pages

Embellishments Such as Eyelets and Brads Can Emphasize Your Photos

K Jolin
Scrapbooking embellishments become more and more dimensional with each passing month. New tools, gadgets and supplies fill the store shelves each day. As an avid scrap booker, I love to browse the aisles and see what new products are coming out. Eyelets have been around for a few years now, and brads have been out almost as long. By adding brads or eyelets to your scrapbook page, you will add interest and creativity! I'll cover how to use them and provide you with some creative ideas on how to place them in your scrapbook.

Eyelets are metal circles that make a perfectly round hole and edging. You have to punch a hole in the paper, inset the eyelet and then pound out the eyelet. You can use eyelets to attach pictures, paper, die cuts, tags, or just about anything you want to fasten to your scrapbook page.

My favorite eyelet setter is the Making Memories Instant Eyelet Setter. The tool comes in a neat tin that holds all the pieces together. There are 3 hole punches, each in a different size, and three eyelet setters, that coordinate with the hole punch sizes. Almost any eyelet can be set with the Making Memories Instant Eyelet setter because it comes with so many sizes. I like this tool because there is no hammering. While it is not silent, it has enough force to set eyelets quickly and permanently. It also gives you the freedom to set eyelets anywhere on your page.

Some fun uses for eyelets include setting pictures, creating holes to string ribbon through, attaching tags for journaling, or just making an interesting border or edging out of eyelets. You can find eyelets in almost any color from earthy metals, to pastels, and even bold bright colors. There are also many shapes that come in eyelet form. The shapes add some fun and a special touch to any scrapbook page!

Brads are an easy way to add dimension to your page. A scrapbook brad is really nothing more than a fancy paper fastener. You simply poke a small hole with a pin or other tool, then insert the brad and flip the prongs out. Brads are a lot of fun and work well to hold items that you do not want to tape or glue on. They come in almost every color, and range from very small to over an inch wide! Brads can be used to fasten on flowers, leaves, pictures or almost any embellishment you can think of! You need no special tools to add brads to your scrapbook which make them a great choice for starter scrap bookers and those who want to scrapbook on a budget!

Scrapbooking is so much fun and with each page you have a clean slate waiting for your creativity! By taking great pictures, choosing fantastic paper and adding interesting embellishment by using brads and eyelets you will create a scrapbook page everyone will adore! I love to add a third dimension to my scrapbook page to make items pop and create interest to the admiring eyes! Brads and eyelets are great options when wanting to bring a special touch to your scrapbook page!

  • Eyelets are most commonly made of metal.
  • Before purchasing any brads or eyelets be sure the label says they are photo safe!
  • Brads are just fancy paper fasteners that have been designed to emphasis a scrapbook.
By adding a third dimension to a scrapbook page, the embellishments will create an adding interest to the rest of the page.
