As far as I know
magnetic attraction fails me--
I'm an American writer and Mexican
how much more opposite do I need to be?
Every eye that has met mine
disconnects
like faulty power lines
I gave the brown,
a blinking look
and then that's all it took
for them to shun me
like day does night
I gave the greens one
whole attention,
like whole grain
in grown men's cereal
but like an old text
my appearance went uncared for
I gave the blue ones
a rich man's courtesy
not ever blinking at their honesty
as they looked away
I can not keep those eyes from looking at me
more than five seconds
and for all love knows
that could be a heartbeat
yet there was a time
when I attracted eyes,
making a bridge between the two sets
where evil could not pass--
the cold sound of bells ringing and trains leaving...
a sudden crash as the world
of love spins away from me..
Damn eyes of ado
how I like to look at you
but my face must be in a book of Fame
that explains to people with eyes
that to connect with "him"
renders utter shame.
