Eyes to See Through the Haze

Circa 1994, Some Many Long Years Since Writing This, Slow Learner

Loraine Alkire
Reliance on God
Would have saved me from apologies
He would have held my tongue
And caused my ink to run dry
If I were to rely
On Him to cease
My ego's vanities

So right you are-
I had placed you on high
Like a star to shine brighter
Than His Morning
And adorning you with praise
That Morning Star
Had dimmed in my eyes

Only momentary lapses
For I know the truth
That has set me free
And you will never unwittingly
Separate me from that truth
It is because I am human
That I sometime loom in
My dark old ways

But I have eyes to see
Through the haze
That comes to me
Filtered like dust filled
Rays from the sky
And I have thought to pray
That God may help me

To stop roaring through
This worldly earth
On my tractor of desperation
Long enough for the hesitation
To settle my cluttered mind
So that I may find
Some peace within

To miss the mark hurts
Or to yield to temptation
And worse to think of it as sin
Thank God for Paul
From which I can draw
The conclusion
I am not by law
Saved as born a lily but
Born a lily by Salvation

Loraine, this is amazing, stirring work. I'm esp drawn to the stanza that begins, "To stop roaring through this worldly earth on my tractor of desolation..." So glad to see you're still writing here! Somehow, I was under the mistaken impression you quit writing for AC. Looked at your Content page... boy was I wrong! Sorry, I hadn't been getting notices. (Yeah, like that's a big shocker... we're all having this problem) But I'm bummed that whatever images you attached w/ this beautiful work won't show up. I see you have 4 attached, but I get nada right now. Have to try tomorrow. Glad to find you again!
