F-22 Raptor Crashes in California Desert

AmyMcClair
Officials at Edwards Air Force Base have released a statement on their website today informing the public of a plane crash in the desert near the base this morning. An F-22 Raptor crash landed during a test flight this morning.

The F-22 Raptor is a prototype stealth aircraft that uses new technology for reaching supersonic speeds. Although Edwards' representatives admit that this was a test flight, they are not saying what they were testing on the aircraft. They are currently unsure what caused the plane to go down, but assure the public that they are investigating the matter fully.

The base officials have not released the name of the pilot in the aircraft, but have stated that the pilot was in the jet when the plane went down. They are unsure whether or not the pilot survived the crash. Names will not likely be released until his or her condition is known and the family notified.

Edwards Air Force Base is home to many test pilot facilities including the F-22, JSF, among others and the NASA/Dryden Space Center. Edwards was in the news when Space Shuttle Endeavor landed there on November 30, 2008.

The personnel of Edwards Air Force Base constantly practice how to respond to all in-flight crises. Their training and dedication save lives on and off the battlefield. They never want this kind of incident to happen, but are prepared for any eventuality. Rest assured that if there is anything these men and women can do to help the downed pilot, they will do it.

Keep the pilot and the rescue crew in your thoughts during this difficult time. I hope he or she is all right.

Good report, I hope that the pilot did make it out alive. And I agree that the military does all in its power to make sure they have all the training they need to help others both on and off the battlefield. God Bless All Our Military Personal.
