Fabric Blinds

Jay Kirby
Fabric blinds was a type of blinds/curtains mentioned previously in another article I wrote( link below). It is possibly agreed that blinds move in an up and down motion and control is to the side of the blinds possibly on one side but maybe on both sides. There is also the batten and possibly some distance between the blind and the batten itself where decorative hooks can be used or maybe the aim here is to give some distance. However there are blinds that I have seen which cover the whole window and they work on a 'crosswards' plain. These blinds are closely placed together so that control is at the side. These blinds then, you can say, turn around and open out into the room whereas blinds, like roller blinds, open upwards, you can say. The next two paragraphs are concerned with how the blinds or these blind-curtain constructions would be 'controlled'.

The horizontal and vertical is important in the blind ; The X axis and the Y axis. Control is at the side, that is, the mechanism for closing and opening the blinds is at the sides. For with blinds, you need some control for them. With roller blinds and Austrian blinds, you pull the rope to get that upward motion of the blind. With fabric blinds, it may be difficult to know what is the obvious function of a side rope. For there are individual fabric blinds. Would the side rope control the individual fabric blinds or a slide at the top which pulls the blinds backwards along the horizontal line. I think a type of slide on the top is possible.

With the fabric blinds, I mentioned, it is possible for control to be completely by hand. Maybe you don't need an independent mechanism such as a side pull rope. You can pull the blinds back and the batten on the top is a type of slide on which the individual blinds slide across. However in this way, there may be a haphazardness and it is important that the individual fabric blinds have their own space. They could overlap with other fabric blinds. You can see there is drape and looseness in this type of blind and that is why ties can be used to 'tie' them back. However it is possible to use many type of fabric for fabric blinds. This article has hinted at specific drapy fabrics but you can use the materials generally used in blinds and develop this into a larger blind construction like this. This article still is concerned with drapy fabrics.

These individual fabric blinds can be individually pulled and controlled but there is only so much movement that can be done. There may be overlapping of course with other fabric blinds. As said, the individual blinds can be tied with a rope to control them. The use of pleats at the top of a fabric blind allows the fabric blind to fall in a drapy way so that it is this drapiness which can be tied up with some form of tie or ornamental braided rope.

These types of designs are possibly on the market already and they are an interesting design tool for the interior space. I find it difficult to call these constructions 'blinds' but in some way they are blinds. Like the long horizontal blinds that you may see in long windows, these are fabric constructions which are on a horizontal rather than vertical plain. However not all blinds have to go upwards like roller blinds and Austrian blinds. However these window designs are also obviously because of the use of fabric, the use of ties for individual fabric blinds. The individual blinds can also be long and drapy.

There are some basic images on my blog. I think the slider application on the top of the window may be the most suitable to control this window design construction.
