1 Yard of Red Felt
1 yard of Green Felt
Sewing machine, No Sew or fabric glue
1 15 inch wide ½ inch wide Wooden Dowels
2 Eye Hooks
Hard Candy (individually wrapped, 25 pieces)
Scissors
Ruler or tape measure
Wooden Numbers
White Spray Paint
Fabric glue
Go ahead and lay out all of you little wooden numbers and spray paint them white. This way they will be ready when you need them. These small wooden numbers can be bought at any arts and craft store. Buy the numbers that are ½ to 1 inch tall of you are going to use the measures provided in this craft project. You could also use white fabric puff paint if you want to save some money. You could also use number stencil and white fabric paint as well.
By the way, these numbers should be the numbers 1 though 25; being this is a countdown to Christmas day!
Now at you're wooden numbers are drying, you can go ahead and get the actual countdown calendar ready. Go ahead and cut your green felt out to 15 inches by 19 inches. Next, you want to cut your red felt out to 14 inches by 16 inches.
Now, cut out 5 strips for red felt. They should all be 2 inches tall and ten inches long.
Place your first strip of red felt out on your large rectangle of red felt. Have it be one inch in from the left an one inch in from the right, basically centered. It should also be about 1 inch down from the top of the fabric.
You want to sew it like a pocket to the big red fabric. Start at the top left corner of the baric and sew down along the edge, follow the bottom and then sew up the right side. Cut off any lose thread's
Now, sew this into five distinct pockets. Measure 2 inches in from the left and sew a vertical line. Cut of any lose thread. Repeat this process 2 inches into the right. Do this a total of five times.
Now, place your next strip for red felt fabric directly below this first sewn on fabric. Repeat the same process as above. The top of this strip should be as close to the bottom of the first strip as possible.
Now, repeat this process with the remaining three strips of red felt.
Tip: Use red thread if you want the stitches to be less noticeable. For a more homemade look us some contrasting thread like whit or even gold. You can use no sew or fabric glue, but I recommend adding some extra dissension to your strip of felt. You need to account for how wide each piece of your no sew will be. Fabric glue can be applied in a relatively thing line, so you might could easily get away with these same dimensions suing it.
Fold the top 11/2 inch of your green felt over and sew it down. Fold it towards the back. This will be the hole your dowel slides through.
Now, place you rd felt rectangle n tope of the green felt fabric. Center it so that you have an even border of green behind the red. Sew around the border to apply the red
Screw in the eye hooks to the each end of one of your dowels. Slip the dowel through e pocket you sewed into the green felt. Tie a piece of ribbon to each eye hook and this will be how you hang it on the wall!
Use your fabric glue to adhere your numbers to each pocket on the Christmas calendar. Start with number one and work you way down.
Once these have dried you can insert a piece of candy into each pocket!
