Fabulous First Anniversary Gifts

No matter which anniversary you are celebrating, it can always be a cause of stress to find the right gift for your loved one.

Whether you go by the traditional or modern interpretation for the anniversary gift, there are always the basic gifts that people suggest. These are the same, tired gifts that your family and friends give you (and that many give each other). Here are some traditional gift ideas with a twist for your first anniversary.

If you're using the traditional gift list, chances are you are getting some sort of paper. Pretty stationery is pretty standard, and personalized stationery is fairly average too. Some people purchase things like notebooks, journals, or address books. Make it a memorable gift like this:
Make your own scented papers for your loved one with flower petals in the mix. Using your blender, mix shredded newspaper, water, flour and a bit of white glue(or add alum) to make a thick paste. Pour over a mesh screen and spread evenly. Leave it to dry in a warm, dry place. This may take several days or even up to a week to make, so make sure you have taken the time into account to make this for your sweetheart. Or make hundreds of origami hearts and put them in a clear jar for your loved one. Try an origami kit together.

If you've decided to take a look at the modern anniversary gift guide, chances are you have time on your mind.

Clocks are fairly standard but can have a subtle message that you're watching time go by. Don't be tempted to buy a digital clock, it is rather impersonal and rather cold. Instead, opt for something timeless and something that implies a long term commitment. A grandfather/grandmother clock would be a wonderful way of saying "I'm looking forward to spending time with you for a long time." A grandfather clock, of course, needs floor space, whereas a grandmother clock can be a focus on your mantle, in your bedroom or in your living area. For a partner who is really down to earth, a sundial would be a good alternative and can be a central part of your garden. Alternatively, if you live in a metropolitan area, a simple sundial that can be worn around the neck would be a choice that tells your love that your love is timeless.

Monogramming is always one way to personalize even the most seemingly inane gift choice. Or adding an element that your loved one relates to, be it bears or fish or flowers. No matter what you choose, the simple act of using a monogram or a symbolic element can make a "typical" gift a special one that your loved one will cherish.

Have a Happy First Anniversary!
