Fabulous Fun at the Hyatt Regency and Spa in Huntington Beach, California
In and Around the Hyatt Regency and Spa Huntington Beach, California
And speaking of friends there is no better place to party during the summer within driving range and affordability for most Southern Californians. Though my trip was all too short I tried to pack in as much fun and relaxation as I could.
First stop, the beach right next to Zach's Too where I decided I must at least put my feet in the sand before progressing on. It was perfect, everything I had hoped for on a beautiful summer's day in Huntington Beach, total time about 10 minutes. After all, happy hour was approaching fast and I had friends to meet, greet and some even to defeat in my new favorite game, curling. "Curling", you say, "in Huntington Beach?" Well it was a scaled down version in the Red Chair Lounge at the Hyatt. At first I played with mere amateurs lacking any knowledge in the rules of the game and so we played a cross of something between air hockey and bocce ball and good old fashioned flirting. I just knew that couldn't be right (especially the flirting part) considering I had paid relatively close attention to the sport on the Olympics. But then came the resident expert, isn't there always one at the gaming tables? Unfortunately, that was after happy hour and I can't begin to tell you the rules. All I know is I was good baby, smoking hot and almost won. The Final score was Pro Lounge Guy (21), little me without much knowledge of curling except hair, (17).
Ah, happy hour, the phrase flows so easily off the lips and if you're lucky it lasts a little longer than a mere hour as ours did. Five of us met up at the Main Street Wine Company - not exactly a happy hour place but a great beginning for conversation, sharing a couple flights of respectably good wine between us and comparing notes, noses, and the latest gossip. We were informed that swirling the glass in two different directions has absolutely no bearing on the taste of the wine. My friend, who swore by this technique was sorely disappointed and refuses to believe it as she evidenced the phenomena for herself in Temecula during a wine tasting tour. She did not confess as to how many wineries she'd been to before experiencing said phenomena.
Our next stop was Fred's Mexican Café Happy Hour; a decidedly upbeat 'got the party started' kind of place even before 'we hipsters' arrived and rocked it harder. Warning- if you are disabled- avoid the Cadillac Margarita- you may give yourself a black eye later. (Yes, I'll explain but not yet). The margaritas are HUGE and potent. Fred's was definitely fun with that great beach view and Main Street HB hopping just below us.
On to said black eye. Happy hour lasted about two hours- it took that long for me to drink the giant margarita and now our little group of five broke up and it was just my BGFF and I. We decided it was time to eat. After all we only ate about 4 pounds of tortilla chips and salsa at Fred's and we were famished.
We decided to eat at Pete's Sunset Grille at the Hyatt. I know homemade pasta when I taste it and oh boy I was happy, add to that perfect shrimp and tomatoes, "I was all that and a crème' brulee cheese cake baby." Oh and the ice pack for my eye that the server was kind enough to get me. You see I was a little chilly in the restaurant and decided I needed a sweater so I went upstairs grabbed my sweater out of the bottom drawer, took a couple of dizzy steps, dropped my sweater and rammed by eye right into the half wall between the living and bedroom portion of the suite. I told you those margaritas were strong and if you have a disability you may just want to stick to a wine spritzer- I gathered my even more disabled self and went down to enjoy dinner with my friend.
My friend appeared to be working when we got back to our room and far be it from me to disturb her as she is a very busy woman (little did I know she was downloading pictures, face booking and tweeting her ass off) so I know when I'm not wanted- that's when I headed for the Red Chair Lounge- not exactly knowing that's where I was heading.
She called me about 10pm wondering where the heck I was and I told her curling but she didn't believe me, " The salons are closed," she snapped," When are you coming to bed, you totally left me here while I was downloading pictures." Uh-oh I thought, I'm in trouble. So I went upstairs and explained that I thought she was totally into her work and all was well.
Sleep, sleep, sleep; boy those rooms are dark and comfy. Fast forward I woke up at 9:30am and headed for the spa. Is there anything more wonderful than a spa? The spa at the Hyatt is a little slice of heaven. By the time I knew it, it was almost 2pm and time for me to go home. Goodbye my pretend life of luxury, Sayonara turned down bed, arrivederci ice pack packing server, aloha cute cabana boy, dahsveedahneeyah salt water spa with fresco ceiling and so many cubbies of chairs and refreshments one could get lost for days. Slane lhiu curling expert guy and fake wanna be curling expert guys, adios giant margaritas and farewell body scrub that smelled better than cotton candy and an ocean breeze.
