Vasad is only 20 miles away from Vadodara city. You can travel by your own car, hired car or taxi to reach Vasad. Fajalpore is the village just close to the town of Vasad. You will have to travel towards the River shore as per the sign boards shown. However, you need to park your car little away from the river bank due to the bad road condition. The other way to reach here is by the passenger train from Vadodara. The passenger train leaves from Vadodara at 9 am and reaches Fajalpore within next forty five minutes or so as Fajalpore is only the fourth station from Vadodara. You can easily walk down to the River bank from the railway station of Fajalpore. The River Mahisagar is very wide here but very peaceful. It may not be full of water in other than rainy season. However, there is always water at the bank of the River at Fajalpore. You can enjoy your bath here as the water is very shallow here.
However, it is not advisable to go much inside the water as there are some dangerous deep pits in the river. It is really very pleasant and enjoyable to take long baths here. There is a very heavy rush of the pilgrims here on all full moon days as well as the no moon days for taking bath in this holy river. You may also like to perform religious rituals of any type of your choice at the bank of the River Mahisagar. There are many priests available here on such auspicious days. After taking holy bath in the river, you can go to the lord Shiva temple that is situated at the bank of the river. This temple is around 2000 years old, having vast open area. You can relax here at the temple or play some fun games here. The temple management can also supply the good quality vegetarian Gujarati lunch, if booked couple of days in advance. You have to pay very nominal charges for the lunch like Rs.30 (75 cents) per person. You may go for hiking on the shore that can provide an opportunity for an adventure sports. There are 5 deep wells that suck the river water from around 400 feet below the water level with the help of large water pumps and fulfill the water to entire Vadodara city and the near-by industrial giants like petrochemicals and fertilizers, located very close to Vasad.
You may start your return journey at around 5 pm from Fajalpore River bank and reach Fajalpore station by 5.30 pm. The evening passenger train is available at 6 pm that can take you to Vadodara by 7 pm. The train fare is almost negligible to the tune of Rs.8 (20 cents) only for one way. This one day picnic is the most preferred outing for middle class people of Vadodara city, as it offers great fun to all the visitors in the age group of 8 to 80 years at extremely economical rates. If you want to have a picnic with your friends and relatives in large number, Fajalpore is a nice place for such picnic and get together. You can add to your fun by taking food items with you of your choice to this picnic. The good quality drinking water is available in ample at Fajalpore temple. If you want to stay here at Fajalpore for the night, there are some simple types of rooms available within the Shiva temple premises at very nominal rates. It is really the experience of life time to walk across the Shore of Mahi River during night time.
If you are familiar to Vadodara city and are going to get the opportunity to visit it in near future, I would strongly recommend all my AC friends to enjoy one day picnic at Fajalpore near the town of Vasad.
