Fabulous Wardrobe with a Low Budget

Most women had the wrong approach to a fabulous wardrobe, they think that they would need to make tons of money or to save up thousands of dollars, but this misconception comes from thinking that you have to go out there and buy a whole new expensive wardrobe in one day. You can build a wardrobe at your own pace. First figure out how much money you spend on clothes for yourself in a year. I don't want you to wreak your budget or stop buying food to improve your clothes what I am saying is that you need to learn how to use your money effectively.

I love Fashion but truth is I don't make enough money to buy everything I want. Even so my friends always tell me how great my clothes are and ask me where I get the money to dress the way I do.

Here are my tips:

First let's start with your closet: Go to your closet and look trough everything you own. If it has stains, rips, and/or discolorations you may keep a couple of outfits for painting, cleaning, gardening or other activities that might ruin other outfits. To the trash with the rest.

Clothes that is outdated, you will never wear again (i.e. wedding dress, prom dress, etc), outdated accessories, and jewelry you don't longer like, or need, sell them and start creating a fund for a new wardrobe.

Now its time for you to try on clothes. Go to the biggest mirror you have and take a good conscious look at you with each outfit, or even better call that friend of yours that is known for being fashionable and honest. Make a pile with the clothes that do not fit anymore, either too big or too small, colors that do not work with your complexion or age, shapes that do not flatter your body type, etc. You can sell them on a garage sell or on the internet, and put the money on your new wardrobe fund.

Take a good look to the pieces you have left. The colors, shapes, textures and styles. You will need this information when buying new clothes. From now on when buying new clothes your guidelines should be:

Buy only pieces that work with what you already have at home. Mix and match is an important part of dressing on a low budget, you want to be able to combine each piece of clothing with at least 3 other pieces in your existing wardrobe.

Most people that buy "cheap" clothes or off name brand clothes sometimes spend a similar amount of money on clothes than people who shops brand name items on sale, because brand name clothes are usually made with better material and the fabrics and shapes last longer. Look for bargain or on sale items on name brand stores. Whatever amount you spend you take it off your budget for the year and that way you cannot go over budget.

Look for timeless pieces. There are pieces that never go out of style. Usually clean lines, solid colors, and classic patterns in fabrics. You don't have to buy trends, because not all trends are going to work for you and they have a short life, next year wearing the same trendy outfit you bought this summer you would look outdated.

Accessories are also important, they give your outfit a new dimension and can transform it form casual to formal. Make sure and you have a good handbag for day and a great one for night. Again since you are trying to keep your budget low, don't choose a handbag that is limited by color or shape to only few outfits. You could see a great Olive green handbag that you love but if it doesn't go with most of your outfits then do not get it.

If you feel the need to look trendy or edgy, then start with your haircut and accessories. You will be surprise how the right haircut/and or new hair color can change the way you look on your own clothes.

Finally have fun, it is not work. Being fashionable is a way of self expression. Let your personality shine on your clothes.

Maybe it doesn't even exist any more, but I could not have survived without the Bargain Depot thrift shop in Old Town Lewisville when my kids were young and growing like weeds - Everything from clothes to dresser drawers to tricycles to childrens' books and craft supplies!
