Face of Betrayal by Lix Wiehl

I read Face of Betrayal by Lis Wiehl, probably close to a month ago, and it took me this long to actually sit down and write the review. This was an enjoyable thriller, I just think its a difficult genre to write something that really stands out. Face of Betrayal is subtitled as "A Triple Threat Novel," which I assume means there will be more books coming with the same set of main characters. The Publishers Weekly review says, "Wiehl, a Fox News commentator and legal analyst, teams with mystery veteran Henry (Buried Diamonds) on a sizzling political thriller. When 17-year-old Senate page Katie Converse goes missing on her Christmas break near her parents' white Victorian home in Portland, Ore., law enforcement and media personnel go into overdrive in a search for clues. Three friends at the pinnacle of their respective careers-Allison Pierce, a federal prosecutor; Cassidy Shaw, a crime reporter; and Nicole Hedges, an FBI special agent-soon discover that Katie wasn't the picture of innocence painted by her parents. It appears Katie was having an affair with a much older man, a senator whose political career could be derailed if the affair was publicized. The seamless plot offers a plethora of twists and turns."

As they said, the story concerns the disappearance of Senate page Katie Converse. She vanishes while home for Christmas break. Despite her parents' insistence that Katie was the perfect "All American Girl" a not-very-anonymous blog reveals otherwise.

The heroines, such as they are, are a federal prosecutor, an FBI special agent, and a reporter. This is the group of women known as the Triple Threat- named, of course, after their favorite dessert. There are a few minor plotlines that keep things interesting- a stalker, an abusive boyfriend, and a random hippie, but they don't relate much to the main question- what happened to Katie Converse? For that answer, you have to follow the twists and turns all the way to the end.

This book goes quickly, but it was a fun read. The ending was a surprise, at least to me. Then again, I tend to not anticipate these things well. The relationship between the three main characters was the crux of everything else. Not a perfect friendship by any means, but a close one. I don't think I'd go out of my way to pick up another book by this author, but I probably wouldn't turn it away if one showed up on my doorstep.
