Facebook Applications Not to Do Without

They May Be Great Time Wasters, but They're Not Wastes of Time

Danny Cox
Time wasters are things that people find to participate in when they are looking to get through a waiting period or just get off of work. Facebook has a ton of applications that people may consider time wasters, but when you purposely take part in them even when you're not killing time then they aren't so much a waste. People have been able to take applications on the go now with their smart phones and laptops, but they aren't really something I personally participate in. Sadly it appears that over ninety percent of the rest of the world does.

The best Facebook applications are those that you either put a lot of time into or see others do so. It's time to find out which applications on Facebook will be most worth your time to take part in because these are more then just time passers folks. Some of these become addictions and a few of them actually require plenty of your time so be prepared for an investment. Best part about all of these top Facebook applications is that they're all free, easy to install, and simplistic in their uses.

Installation for all of these is as simple as joining up the group or becoming a fan of them so don't look for any vast computer knowledge to be necessary when you want to play.

~ Farkle: Talk about addictive. One of the first ever Facebook applications that actually got me hooked and it is fantastic. It is a very simple dice game that only requires you roll the dice and use a little bit of guessing and luck in hopes of matching up the numbers to the requirements for each round. Make sure you read the rules first though because I've seen numerous people that have lost many rounds because they weren't quite sure of how things rolled. No pun intended.

~ Farmville: Essentially this is the way everyone in the world can be a farmer without having to worry about the heat, hard work, and smells that come along with owning a real farm. Build up your farm and the surrounding land with buildings, sheds, fences, and even landscapes that are all to your liking. Plant crops that grow and purchase animals that wander around your farm as you do your work and also help others with their farm work. You must be careful though because if you aren't paying attention or going to your farm enough then both your plants and animals may die causing all your hard work to go down the drain. Hopefully you have friends that pay enough attention and can help you out at times too because the more work you do, the more things you can unlock.

~ Mafia Wars: It truly is one of the most popular applications in all of Facebook, and maybe that's because it gives people a chance to live a life of crime without worrying about the horrible consequences. Mafia Wars gives everyone that plays a chance to rob banks, take out hits on other people, and earn enough money to have whatever you want in the world. It is an incredibly in-depth game that doesn't take a whole lot of skill but becomes overly addicting the more you play it. The chances of earning money, raking up the kill count, and owning more property is what people get the most thrill out of and they want to be known as the big Don of Facebook wars.

~ Yacht: Another addicting dice game in the same family as Farkle, but just as fun. The premise is virtually the same as you roll six dice per round and try to match up to the requirements needed for each game. Some of the accomplishments are a bit harder to reach but that is what makes it even more fun because you'll need the skill and realize it isn't just a guessing game. Sure you may never know which way the dice will land, but you've got to take chances with your determinations as to which dice you hold and which ones you want to throw down again. Prepare to spend a lot of time with this one.

~ Scrabble Beta: Don't think you need to be a word wiz just to play a game that most people hate taking part in because they end up feeling stupid. Not only is a dictionary provided for you so you can check your guesses before playing them, but there is even a helpful little "two-word dictionary" to give you choices when your letters start winding down. You'll be amazed at some of the things you can come up with just by taking a little bit of time and looking around the board full of letters. Do yourself a favor though and don't cheat. There are plenty of ways to do so but just avoid it. Playing Scrabble on Facebook also allows you to play in turns over time and without the burdensome tiles on the board always moving or slipping out of place.

~ We're Related: Family members can be anywhere and everywhere in the world, and you may never even know it. This application will allow you to not only be connected to family members you already know about, but it may allow those out there you've lost contact with to find you easier as well. It comes with an optional box that can be placed right on your main Facebook page for all to see. You'd be amazed just who you may be related to but never knew it because there are just far too many connections in between the both of you.

~ Mindjolt Games: Mindjolt is good because it is so many games in just one application. You can play games that specialize in racing, skill, puzzles, sports, classic, arcade, and so many more categories. They are a lot of fun and there is something there for everyone. Each game will usually only take you about two or three minutes, but that's the best thing about them. You aren't going to be spending a lot of time trying to get through numerous levels or worrying about saving to come back later and continue on.

~ Bejeweled Blitz: An easy game that will leave you smiling in your success or wanting to pull your hair out in frustration, but you still won't want to stop playing. A quick game of matching three shapes all within a specific amount of time; Bejeweled Blitz makes sure that you don't look away and don't get distracted because you simply won't have the time to do so. Usually you're only given 60 seconds for each round and you may think that you can't accomplish even half of the levels you are able to achieve in the game, but then you look at your friends' records and wonder how long it took them to get that high. That jealousy will surely have you stuck with your hand on the mouse and your eyes on the screen because you won't want to stop until you've at least climbed one more rung on the ladder.

~ Causes: One of the few applications on Facebook that has a lot more to it then just taking time out of your day or playing around. Join causes that can deal with anything from supporting the troops, praying for those suffering from cancer, or even donating to different cause that you may deem important. There are countless causes out there and so many which need support and help so please take the time on different days to look through as many of them as you can. Sometimes all it takes is becoming a fan of the cause in order to show your support and help out.

~ Big Prize Giveaways: Another application much like "Causes" that isn't a game and doesn't require skill. Everyday and sometimes multiple times a day, you can put your name in the virtual hat for some fantastic gifts and prizes. All you have to do is register for each giveaway and within a certain time period, a name will be drawn and the prize will be won. There is no cost and nothing that needs to be done for each prize chance so all it literally takes is a simple click to get a chance. Some of the things I've seen up for grabs: laptops, Wal-Mart gift cards, Target gift cards, clothes, money, books, Playstation 3 video game systems, and so much more. Taking a shot at getting something for nothing never hurt anyone.

Most of these applications are fantastic for anyone and everyone, but they are geared a bit more towards adults. That especially holds true for Mafia Wars, Farkle, and Yacht which take a certain amount of skill in order to play them correctly and be successful. Mindjolt would be one of those that is best for adults and children alike because you can take part in games that require great amounts of time and coordination or you can sit down and enjoy a relaxing simple game of Tic-Tac-Toe

Facebook is a lot more then a social gathering. It's a place to test your skills in every way imaginable.
