Facebook is a Mecca for all types of people from all over the world. Some people connect with family, classmates, old friends, and others in an effort to catch up. There is a person out there on Facebook who wants you for other reasons. Bring on the stalkers and pedophiles.
We all can guess what the stalkers and pedophiles want, and thwarting them should be your first line of defense always. Don't install an app simply because everyone else is doing it.
One of the worst apps you can install is the one, see who's tracking your profile. The b2cmarketing insider website detailed how this application allows the makers of it to phish out your personal information.
Some of those advertisers use your likes to target ads to you on Facebook, but not all. Some makers of those malicious apps want to get into your profile and take your password. Taking your password may not seem like a big deal, but most people use the same password and user name on multiple sites for ease of use. On Facebook they can delete friends, but if you used the same user name and password on your banking information, well your bank account can be drained.
The Breakup Notifier is the latest Facebook application that one of those stalker type programs and it is perfect for anyone who is on the prowl for another user who is taken on the website. This handy program lets the stalker know if their relationship status changes, so he or she can pounce.
Personally, I think those apps, which allow you to answer a question about someone on your profile, are not harmless either. If a stalker is watching them closely and sees that your close friends reveal the same things about you, then the stalker has insight to your actions.
Many people can use Facebook for many things; if you guard yourself then you should have no problem.

Post a CommentI have a few game friends who spam their walls with unneeded game posts; thus I hide them from my wall. Yet I need to check their wall to find any needed game posts. When I first saw the stalker or "who is your best friend" (via most visits to a wall) postings, I thought: Gee I am probably on their list of stalkers. I had one friend who was astonished and angry that I visited her wall, oh, 3,000 times. In the two or three months we knew each other, I may have visited her wall a few times ~ to view her newly posted photo albums, is all. Because she fell for one of the scams, the day after I posted about the very same scam, I removed her without a word.
I play some Facebook games and often wonder how safe those applications are. I removed all the cutesy things, like sending hearts, or quizzes, even though I liked them, because there purpose seemed to be advertising and yes, perhaps, phishing. Some of the apps that offer to tell users who is stalking, are scams. They will ask the person to "prove you are human" by entering your cell phone number. Next up, the user is getting unauthorized cell phone charges, calls or spam text messages.
