Facebook Art Contest: Would You Check it Out?

Many of you have read my articles and have seen my art, especially watercolors in my articles. I am on facebook, as so are many of you. There is an art contest on facebook with many amazing artists displaying their work. I personally believe that good art is more in the eye of the beholder. I have judged art shows and find it extremely hard to pick out winners. It is so subjective. What I love may not impress another judge in the least and vice versa.

I have heard artists ask those who know the judges of certain art shows, what the judge likes. For example, my dear friend, colleague, and teacher, Phil Montheith, is a pastelist. He loves pastels. He doesn't know as much about watercolors, which he freely admits. I, for example, am not at all good at judging abstracts.

A judge may have a fondness for portraits, another for still lifes or landscapes. It really isn't a good idea to try to enter a piece of art because of the preferences of the judge. They can judge purely on what they believe is quality art. It is always good to have more than one judge, judge an art show. I think that this art contest may be purely on popularity. I am not that popular. I do not live on facebook. I have many friends but not based on how much I participate on farmtown, which I don't at all, or other things that I have no interest in.

What I am asking for is an honest vote. If you really like my watercolor, and even if you don't there are some amazing pieces of art there. I love Patrick Burke's art. He is talented, creative and has a wonderful mastery of acrylics. I may have talked myself out of a vote, but I sincerely believe that the odds are very slim that I will win anyway. It is fun to participate and to meet many artists on facebook for me though. Thanks in advance for your participation and hopeful vote.

If you are interested in other mediums, such as pottery, pastels, or oils, you can also find a medium that you may want to try. We are not a formal bunch of students or teachers, although all of our teachers are professional artists You will find it fun, rewarding and if you are passionate about art, or learning how to create art, you will love the Elkhart Art League, the teachers, students and the community.
