Facebook Down? What to Do While Waiting

Alternative Ways to Occupy Time

Y! Lyn
Facebook down? Oh no! How will you ever waste time - er, spend time with friends now? It doesn't happen often, but when facebook is down for maintenance, regular users need some alternatives. There is no comparable facebook alternative, but here's some alternative ways to occupy your time. Being upset or stressed or bored isn't going to make it come back up faster than it already would have. So you may as well have fun instead of complaining.

Facebook FarmTown and FarmVille Alternatives

When facebook is down, you can't very well harvest crops in FarmTown or FarmVille, but here's something you can do instead. Have you ever heard of bucket gardens? OK, so it isn't exactly farming, but it's similar to the real thing and hey, harvesting crops on facebook isn't exactly farming either. What's so cool about bucket gardens is that they can be given to the homeless as a sustainable food source. Communicate With Friends When Facebook is Down

With facebook down, how are you supposed to communicate with friends? Well, there's email, Twitter, and a bajillion other websites and social networks to utilize. Beyond that, if facebook is down, consider actually calling your friends on the phone. Your facebook friends are generally people you know in real life. So, better than a phone call, maybe you could go to a movie instead of sending each other links to funny YouTube videos.

Work More When facebook is Down

When facebook's down, you can't very well play too much, now can you? So, why not work? You remember - that place where you get the free internet to play on? There's something else you're supposed to be doing, too. So, why not actually do it? That's what they're giving you money for. Besides, now that facebook is down, you need something to do before you are bored out of your mind. Benefit: your boss might actually think you're worth something besides taking up office space now.

Get Some Fresh Air

Have you forgotten that there's a whole world to explore somewhere out there? Take advantage of facebook being down and get out there! Take a walk. Take a hike. Ride your bike to get groceries - you know, something you actually have to prepare. Since you can't go on facebook, no sense in rushing meal prep time. No crops can be harvested, no friends are gossiping about so-and-so or bashing the latest politician. You aren't missing out on anything, except your life. So get out there and enjoy it. Hurry, before facebook starts working again and you're sucked right back into the wonderful abyss!

Back to the basics pre-internet, I love it! :) Great reminders, as you said it is just your life. And life offers so many things that facebook couldn't begin to compete with. Love the message!

What? You want me to actually CALL somebody on the PHONE? How archaic is THAT? LOL!!! Cute article, and good advice, too! :)

Sorry, what's a board game again? :) Good ideas, and you could even consider writing articles :) Sometimes I think we get too dependent on Facebook etc, and allow it to control our lives, especially if we play games like Farmville.

How droll you are to suggest alternatives to talking to friends and actually having instant feedback as in a live telephone conversation. Oh, how droll. What will the internet think of the revolutionary idea?

The world would be more productive if FB were down more frequently! :-)
