Facebook Email Addresses Announced

As if Facebook weren't already taking over most of the internet, now they will be taking a chunk out of the email industry as well. Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, announced that the popular social media site will be launching a new messaging service that will give users an "@facebook.com" email address.

Zuckerbook outlines three features that will be making up this new messaging system: users can chat through whatever medium they choose, conversation history, and a social inbox for "filtering exactly the messages you want to see." This new system will tie in several messaging mediums- IM, email, SMS - from Facebook and several other platforms so that users can chat in real time via whatever medium they choose.

Facebook will be rolling out with this in the next few months and insists that "this is not an email killer." However some of the technological press begs to differ, deeming Facebooks new features to be a "Gmail killer." Regardless, it will be interesting to see how this plays out in the internet world.
