Facebook Farm Town Etiquette
Also Known As: The Things that Tork Me Off when Playing Farm Town on Facebook
However, there are some things that really irritate me when playing Farm Town on Facebook. Some people have no manners or common sense, it seems. So here's a guide on etiquette when playing Farm Town on Facebook.
Facebook Face Town Etiquette: When Hiring Workers
Please! Don't hire twenty people to work one small 8x8 field! It is truly frustrating when my computer begins to lock up because 15 people are trying to harvest the same crop.
Along the same lines, please wait until all the crops in an area are harvested before coming along with the plow. Once again, that causes my computer to freeze and usually I'm booted from Farm Town completely.
Don't quiz people in the Marketplace and reward them with work. Most people are not playing Farm Town to answer trivia questions.
Don't promise a ton of high-paying crops like pinneapples or peppers when you don't have them on your farm. It's really rude to pull someone away from the Marketplace on Farm Town with promises of riches, only to offer them a piddly amount of raspberries.
Do reward your good workers on Farm Town by adding them to your Buddy List to hire again. I enjoy getting to know people on Farm Town and develop a friendship with the people I work for.
Facebook Face Town Etiquette: When Working for Other Farmers
Nothing irritates me more when playing Farm Town on Facebook than someone working on top of me. I can't do anything when someone else is trying to harvest the same crop I am.
Instead, try moving to another area of the farm. It's a win-win situation to allow other workers some space on Farm Town, because both players don't have to worry about their computers locking up.
Don't leave half the field unharvested or unplowed when working for another farmer on Facebook's Farm Town. Hide the buildings and trees by clicking on the wrench in the top right corner and toggling the check mark next to "Show trees" and "Show buildings" off.
Don't harvest something your farmer doesn't want harvested. If the person you're working for on Farm Town doesn't want you to harvest their trees, then turn them off so you don't accidently harvest them.
Facebook Face Town Etiquette: When Asking for Work
This is perhaps my biggest pet peeve: when people flood the tiny chat screen by saying "please" with a million e's. If you do that, you will be put on my ignore list.
Also, I have found it's not necessary to constantly beg for work either. A simple, "I'm looking for work please" usually works to get hired on Farm Town.
Try greeting people when they come into the Marketplace or the Inn on Farm Town! I have met some really cool people from all over the world, and have subsequently gotten more work, by simply saying "Hello" to those who come in.
I believe that's the true spirit of Farm Town on Facebook. As far as I know, Farm Town on Facebook is not a game you can "win". So why not make friends while you build up your own farm on Farm Town?

Thanks for the tips here! I'd never considered that plowing near where someone was harvesting would cause problems with it locking up. That doesn't happen to me, but I do have a very fast connection.
My pet peeve is when workers won't listen to my directions. Perhaps that's why people start out with trivia questions... it's a test to see if you will actually understand and respond to directions when working.
Very nicely put article. My pet peeve is after someone starts to harvest, the first thing they say is, "can I plow?"..well you haven't finished and a "hi how are you?" or "thanks for hiring me" have always been nice to hear and gets me on buddy lists. Thanks for the article.
Nice article, but there is one other thing missing. People should not assume to harvest trees unless they are asked to. So many times, they will harvest my tress after I have asked them not to, and there is no way to stop them once they start.
very good info, nicely done.
Boy do I agree with what you have posted here. Thanks for the article
I refuse to play Farm Town! I've had about a million people invite me on Facebook, though. ;)
Gee, I never really started this, although people seem to send me animals (mostly horses - go figure). If I became hooked, I might stop writing. Then I might stop breathing. Then . . . Oh, no!
I will admit to a slight Tetris addiction - I used to play it when I was stuck on the phone for 2+ hour conference calls. That doesn't even come close to my Farmtown Addiction. I actually enjoy it - I'm taking my time building up the levels. I have a friend who joined FB less than a month ago specifically to play Farmtown and has already reached level 34. Of course, she's 70 and retired. She can do what she wants!
For someone with a real rural background, the last thing I'd want to do...
