Facebook: Five New Service Quality Problems Since the Protests of '09

How Far Has Facebook Come Agaist the Potests of a Year Ago?

Donald Pennington
I love Facebook. I really do. I'm not trying to rip face book "a new anything." There's no delusions of grandeur that the admin of a site as big as Facebook will ever even read a single word a nobody like me ever writes. I've just a few gripes about the online service, is all. This isn't any sort of a formal complaint. It's more of a warning to new facebook users.

But, as a facebook user, I've every intention of voicing every complaint I have. Let the other fb users read what I'm publishing, come to realize I'm absolutely correct on everything I say and then some, and then when I start my own social networking venture they're all mine.

Anyhow, it's been a year since the protests brought upon facebook, as of Feb 18th, 2010. What's changed since then? Surely, this list isn't conclusive. Bring some to light in the comments too, please!

Facebook: Five New Service Quality Problems Since the Protests Number One:

Apps - Apps can drive a facebook user nuts. The easiest way to get them eliminated is to follow the steps here. Most apps only become a nuisance after you've authorized them once. The piece shows how to remove the annoying apps on face book.

Facebook: Five New Service Quality Problems Since the Protests Number Two:

Follow-up speed - This isn't the first time follow-up and reply speed has been mentioned about Facebook. Complaints that have resulted from being answers not given, to questions asked. The help pages aren't so much, either.

Facebook: Five New Service Quality Problems Since the Protests Number Three:

Trojans - How many of us have seen one message, or another, making a claim to being a reply to a photo comment? How many accounts have been hacked? Facebook customers all over the world have dealt with gimmicks to get our computers loaded with malware of all sorts.

But the latest approaches have been through "groups." The perp offers a group like "We Will Walk If Facebook Charges $4.99 a Month," and other sorts. The easiest method of avoiding Trojans is to ignore what you don't recognize. You're not being rude.

Facebook: Five New Service Quality Problems Since the Protests Number Four:

Blocking - I want the ability to be able to instantaneously, and effectively block any and all groups, apps, ads, members, or any other function on my fb page. Have you ever tried explaining some of that to your kids? Grandkids?

It would also be great if they'd let us time the block, so as to have a "penalty box." The majority of apps are never so difficult as the app named "School of Wizardry." Those guys should really consider leaving me alone! No free lessons!

Facebook: Five New Service Quality Problems Since the Protests Number Five:

The Dislike Button - Where's my dislike button? Why hasn't someone in fb admin seen fit to offer the ability to dislike something someone posts within a status update? Is there something "wrong" with not always feeling like "liking" something?

All too often something is shared on face book that deserves a negative response. Let us enjoy our right to "dislike" things too. It's only human to dislike some status updates! I'd at least like to click "pass."

I don't allow any apps. I tried farmville once and discovered I would make a lousy farmer so I quit.

Stay away from groups offering a dislike button!

Someone told me the other day the Dislike button was working. I don't spend enuf time there for these things to bother me....sounds heavy tho.

Good points. You'd think they could make the improvements. I quit using Facebook a long time ago. It seemed like a more sophisticated version of MySpace. I don't do either.

    Good points!

All so true. I've often wondered where the dislike button is and then again, why I can't like something twice if it is really good. Reposting this on my fb for ya.

Heh. Perfectly understandable gripes! I don't like apps only because they drag on my PC's resources dreadfully. I think it's more of a personal problem because I don't see anyone else complaining of that. I haven't tried any FB apps when I'm at home yet. Might just be my work PC.

I thought I saw something about a petition for a 'dislike' button, but I could be wrong. Ooh the apps thing is a good point, I can't even tell you how much I hate those! This is a good list.

I usually stay away from apps. Too much bad word about them.
