Facebook "Koobface" Virus Spurs Massive Threat to Users

What Exactly is the "Koobface" Virus, and What Can You Do If You've Been Infected?

Facebook is one of the most widely used social networking sites in the country. Recently, however, there have been a few issues with viruses popping up on the popular website. One that has come up fairly recently is the Facebook "Koobface Virus," and this has impacted many people around the US and World very recently. The virus shows up in messages from friends, asking them to click on a link. The link leads to a site that asks for a "software update" of Adobe's Flash Player. Though the software appears to be a simple software upgrade, there are malignant files in the download.

The Koobface virus is proving to be one of the biggest, most widespread viruses Facebook has seen to date. Koobface showed up on MySpace a few months ago, but through the use of increased security functions, they were able to eliminate the virus completely from their network.

The Facebook virus brings people to contaminated websites when attempting to use basic search engines, which is a main "symptom" from contracting the virus on your computer. Koobface has been reported to be extremely harmful to your computer, perhaps even to the extent of needing to trash your computer altogether. Malignant software finds its way onto your machine, and it is incredibly hard to clean, even with the use of advanced virus protection software.

If you have accidentally downloaded this terrible Facebook virus, there are a few things you can do immediately. First, check out Facebook's main website and more specifically, their security website. It can be found at http://www.facebook.com/security. There, you can find detailed information released by Facebook, so that you can get the virus off your computer. Also, be sure to check to see if your Facebook account has been used to send out more spam and phishing emails. If this is the case, report to Facebook immediately and change your password.

All in all, the Facebook Koobface virus is a major nuisance to many around the globe; however, Facebook is working hard to upscale their security and make sure Koobface will be eliminated.

The way you tell if its koobface is to look at the message in your inbox. they always contain spelling or grammar errors like "lool checkk out youre afce on this secret camrae"
usually with the application of common sense you would know that this isn't something you want to click on. Its rising again... I got 10 koobface emails on facebook just this week.

you don't have to cancell your account you just have to use some common sense and don't download crap unless you know exactly what it is!! If you do that then there should not be a problem. Facebook is a really neat site, i wouldn't cancell just because of a virus. there are a lot of websites that get viruses, more than a person would think. you don't hear about ALL of them!
