Officially, Facebook has the honor of being the most visited web site in the US for the period of March 7 through 13th. This will certainly help the market share for Facebook as they had a 185% increase in visits compared to the same time in 2009. For the record 14% of web site page visits went to Google and Facebook. This newfound fame will surely help Facebook in terms of its advertising revenue.

In other news, Microsoft is pushing the boundaries of Web and Cloud computing development at the MIX10. The MIX 10 is a 3-day conference in Las Vegas, NV that encompasses the topic of web development, cloud computing, interoperability and performance via innovation thorough the use of HTML 5. HTML5 will support hardware acceleration of graphics and text. Microsoft also unveiled the new Internet Explorer 9 Platform, which included a new JavaScript engine. Microsoft also want to keep its commitment to providing enhancements in JQuery and Open Data Protocol both which help developers access data from Cloud Computing.

Microsoft is hungry for mobile apps and demonstrated this on stage at the MIX 10 by using a smart phone to remotely control a canon. The Keynote speaker, using his Windows Phone, piloted a canon onto the stage. Using the canon, he then went on to shoot t-shits out to the crowd. Even though the Microsoft Phone will not be for the shelves till this fall, Microsoft is trying to maintain the consumer enthusiasm by finding ways to showcase the technology and produce mini-pep rally's to support the emerging technology.

An interesting thing to keep in mind for Facebook's rise in ranking is that in China, a country with a huge population, Facebook is blocked (yes, this is true). So, the fact that Facebook beat Google in this disadvantage should be highly recognized.
